This is going on ebay as a classified add soon.
1988 Audi ‘ur’ quattro (MB engine).
As a quattro owner’s club member I have tried to maintain this car to the excellent standard in which I bought it, I think I have succeeded and improved in some areas. So with heavy heart I have come to sell it.
Before you go any further please do some research on these cars to fully appreciate the history that surrounds them and the huge following they have. Try these websites for advice; it’s also worth joining the Quattro owners club, even if you don’t own one yet.
http://www.quattroforum.com/forum/ probably the liveliest Quattro website, lots of helpful friendly people.
http://www.quattroownersclub.com/ the official owners club, pay the money and listen to the advice.
http://www.audifans.net/index.php A general Audi website.
http://www.isham-research.co.uk/quattro/ the most informative quattro website there is, read it all and read again.
Now to the car -
Mot – The MOT runs until August the 19th 2008. It sailed through the last M.O.T only needing a wiper blade. I then spent over an hour discussing the car with all the technicians, who were all amazed to see one, and in such good condition.
Tax – till end of February 08. This can be renewed if the current cost for 6/12 months is added to the final price.
Mileage – 12950 displayed. Actual approx 112000 due to dash change.
Engine – This is in excellent condition with all cylinders at or over 9bar, no knocks, rattles or tapping. A lot of work has gone into maintaining this engine by the previous owner to keep it at its best. You can see (with the aid of a mirror) that the exhaust manifold has been replaced (all new studs and nuts) both radiators are new, cam belt changed etc, it also has an unobtrusive stainless steel exhaust.
Transmission – No problems here, all the gears engage correctly and no whines or knocks. The wheels were refurbished less than 100 miles ago in the correct Zermatt silver and look brand new. The tyres are the correct Dunlop size with plenty of tread left.
Interior – In very good condition, the rear seats look almost untouched and the front seats have not worn through the fabric on any of the bolsters, the drivers lower, outer bolster has started lose its foam support but this is very common. The previous owner fitted some extra speakers in the door panels which I have tried to find replacements for, but none good enough have been found yet. There is a small piece of trim missing from the front corner of each door behind the mirrors but these can be sourced from a standard coupe from the same era, again I have been looking for some good enough. The passenger seat sometimes needs a nudge to fully tilt forward but again I’m being very picky for a 20 year old car.
Exterior –This is in excellent condition, but there are of course, if you look very carefully, a few tiny imperfections here and there but, it is nearly 20 years old. In my fussy opinion no paint work would be needed unless it was going into a museum or a perfect private collection. After every time the car is driven it is washed down, wheels cleaned and put away in the garage covered in cotton sheets, it may seem excessive but that’s why it looks like it does.
Electrics – During my ownership I have replaced some of the dash switches so they illuminate correctly. The electric aerial does not go up and down, but then I never have the radio on, I usually have the window down to listen to the glorious sound of the five cylinder. The digital dashboard has been replaced at some point clouding the actual mileage slightly, but as the condition of the car is so good I would doubt that it is any higher than indicated.
General condition - From the reactions I get from the general public when it is out of the garage I would have to say it is in fantastic condition. On the whole I would say it would be classed as ‘mint’ because this is the usual comment. I have a large ring binder full of receipts, old M.O.Ts, tax discs and also in this folder is the original owners’ manual, service book and extended warranty booklet.
On ebay I'm putting it up for £9000, I think I'm on the mark there but I've been told by other to ask for more, but then I am a realist.[/img]
