Yes, I am a potential buyer of a B7 Avant and so I am biased but I think you guys have to get real - the economy is stuffed and will remain so for the next 12 to 18 months minimum - therefore you can't expect anything but severe pain in terms of 2nd hand prices of premium cars.

I very nearly bought a B7 in mid july for £43k from a trader, that car would now be worth £34k or so if I was selling it privately. I am obviously damn pleased I didn't splash the cash but I think they have further to go to reflect evey other asset out there. After all we have just got over the banking crisis so the 'real' recession hasn't even hit yet.

Just take a look at Autotrader and Pistonheads for a reality check with high mileage cars starting to dip under 30k. You do get the odd dreamer asking for a high 30's for a 56 plate but they just stay there for months.

Sorry to urinate on the parade but just because you guys are saving 30 quid a week on super unleaded doesn't change the basic economics.

Having said all this I seriously think these cars are a usuable classic and that if anything in a couple of years time the good ones might appreciate in value, the shame is I think this will be from a £25k base.

BTW if anyone does have a B7 RS4 in grey or black with buckets, flat wheel, Sat nav and carbon interior I am a cash buyer at £28k!!

Oh crikey ,i've been lurking on the site for ages too and i might as well join in and agree with above.

I've got a fully loaded 335D M Sport Touring with the DMS remap. List was £46000 and even though its only just over a year old the trade bids have been around £21000 ( the car does have 37500 on the clock )

I'm actually in a position that i might buy a second car and keep the 335D for work as i just can't seem to shift it. I'm probably in a similar position to most of you who are thinking of selling your RS4'S that the price its getting so low that you might as well keep it and run it into the ground.

I started a thread on PH in the summer of this year asking if we would see a new shape M3 for £32999 by Christmas. Well , we're two months away and there are now several M3's that have sold for under £34000. In fact there is a Black fully loaded coupe M3 07 on there now for £33000 with just 12000 on the clock !
Just going on the fact you are even looking at buying one of our cars suggests there is cash still out there and if you have the right car the right buyer will pay the right money for it.... I am keeping mine for the forseeable, its only peeps who have money issues that need a quick sale and are putting the prices down on a few cars...

Lets all keep our cars and make these bargain hunters waiting ;) Same with our houses lol

Sorry mate, but you are the dreamer if you think you are going to get an avant for less than £30k this side of Christmas, in fact there are only a few Avants for sale for less than £35k.

Yes its a buyers market, however, my avant went to its new owner today for £39k. If you have a well specced car that has been looked after, it will still fetch good money; my car is proof positive of that.

sorry s4int but i think your car is the exception rather than the rule and you've done really, really well imho. There's loads about £35k on autotrader even some from audi dealers and thats assuming there not going to move on price which in these times pretty sure they will. RS4's are going to take another few big hits yet over the winter period, great cars but like all high value cars they're going to depreciate heavily too (cash value rather than percentage).
wait for it......

I've seen these ones for around £35k and most of them are sheds. There are still a good number of RS Avants like Saints, mine and a few from RS246 that are absolute minters and are worth every penny around the £40k mark. I put mine on pistonheads a week ago to test the market at just under £40k and got five enquiries. If you've got a good one it will stand the test of time.

I learnt my lesson selling my mint M3 CSL in 2005 for just over £40 k and thought it was a good time to get out of the car. I was wrong CSLs were still making good money three years later just like the RS4 Avants will do.

All above comments are fairly argued, but all you performance car owners Do! know the stuff is about to hit the fan regarding huge secondhand car price loses. And sorry, as for the B7 becoming a classic no :boohoo: , far to many have been manufactured unlike the B5. It won't be long before B7's are being priced the same as a low milage RS4 B5, I will give it 18 Months so remember you herd it first here!.

Ya took the words right out of my mouth matey..... if you have the right car in utterly pristine condition with very low miles ( which my nephew's is ) and someone is looking for (that)car the will pay a premium for it. we've all gone and looked at piles of <beep> when buying a car and wished we hadn't bothered .
Just because something is cheap it doesn't mean its worth buying, you get what you pay for.

Couple of comments...

When a car is depreciating £700+/month, the month the car was registered makes a big difference to how you value it. Might not score you much kudos with a buyer, but nevertheless, you have to start a valuation somewhere/somehow... In addition, the mileage "corrections" will also add up...

The car is worth what someone wants to pay for it. End of the (purist) argument. Some of you are unlucky trying to sell your car, others aren't. It doesn't help if you're not in the South East, where inevitably the biggest demand is...

The reality is, that, to some extent, the value these cars sell for, is somewhat decoupled from their intrinsic worth at the moment....many marques are experiencing this.

I don't for a second think that because my house is depreciating, it might not appreciate again at some time in the future. I can quite believe, that depending where your car is on the curve, it might appreciate again in the future. I'd say that probably only applied to a few top spec cars, and only if things turn around fairly quickly. People are dumping stock (of all kinds) on the market at the moment if they feel over-exposed...

Good luck to the original poster.

As well as the sheds the RSs that are also for sale in the low £30k are desperate owners that unfortunately have either lost their jobs or could lose their jobs and all they want to do is get rid. If they stick it in low there's a good chance they could sell it tomorrow so they can finally get the finance company off their backs and hopefully come out clean.

Sure but there are people still interested and willing to pay for the right car in mint condition, 1 owner, low miles at just under £40k. Hence Saint's car going for £39k

I have seen and been in this car and can hand on heart say that it was in mint condition and wanted for nothing.
