RS6 C5 2003 Engine Undertray wanted

Post by live.marc » Sun Mar 04, 2018 11:34 pm

Please can someone point me in the right direction for one of these without having to spend a small fortune, thanks.

I was driving in the snow, and that's when it dissapeared, and I didn't know where or when it sheared off!!! :bash:

Thanks for any help in advance, or any advice also welcome.

They very rarely come up for sale on here. Find someone on eBay that is breaking a whole car and you may be lucky, but chances are that it may be slightly damaged due to age etc. I have repaired mine in the past using a rivet gun and the black lid from an old recycling bin. Make sure that when you fit the replacement that you put all the retaining clips in and check them every so often or else you'll end up losing another under tray!

I'm going to be trying to find one locally in South Africa - my RS6+ didn't come with one, previous owner must have had work done or similar incident where it was torn off somewhere. Darn it.

I dread to think how much it is from the Steelers. Probably 1 whole standard currency unit!!!

thanks for taking the time to reply, yes, from all the searching i've been doing, they do seem a rare thing. I just hope whoever found mine knows that!! lol

I've been toying with the idea of getting an alluminium sheet and somehow making my own! :audibash:

I contemplated that and quickly put it on the "too hard" list. I also considered molding one out of GRP.
In the end I paid the money and just bought a new OEM one...

Can't remember - think it was maybe 250 quid?
Certainly cheap enough that I couldn't be arsed to fabricate my own, but expensive enough that I didn't buy a spare...

Is it really needed ? Major issue if it's not present ?

I can't imagine at low town speeds it making a major difference, but I would certainly think so at open road speeds for sure.

It has been asked on here in the past. There are grooves and air guides on it that direct air towards the rear of the engine and gearbox. Anything that looks after the gearbox I would certainly say it is needed.

Matt, if it was about £250 then I would say that given the size of it, it's an absolute bargain in RS6 terms.

Perhaps I'm mistaken, it was a while ago - I've got all the receipts for everything I've done, obvs, so I'll double check.

FWIW, I don't think the RS6 parts are expensive for what they are. I think 2.0TDI OEM parts are just as expensive - but there's less of them, more of them made on the aftermarket and they're easier to get to. That's the "RS6" factor.

I think the main issue is, the quality of the tray for the price you pay. I've seen a new one from Audi and it looked 2nd hand.
previous- Pug 205 gti, 306 gti, 309 gti Goodwood.
Audi S3, S4 V8 avant.
Porsche Macan Turbo.
Gone but NEVER forgotten - C5 RS6 Misano red avant.

Now - Empty garage

If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there!

Will be contacting Audi tomorrow to see what they want for one. Will let you know when I hear back. A sheet of Alluminiun will be around £40 but I'll have to cut it and make all the correct holes etc! Have fixed a 7 series BMW leaking petrol tank with a baking tray and some cold weld before! So i thought perhaps a nicely cut peice of alloy would be the solution. The hard part would be to get under the car, and make correct measurements and cuts including the holes, hmmm I'm leaning towards paying the 250 ! If it's around that I may just get one from Audi!!

My new home made better than stock undertray https://1drv.ms/u/s!AhkvV1JoFERSgcMcRAQ_C7kXGgvnag :bigblink:

No more undertray needed! I decided to make my own out of alluminium. I used 1.5mm Alluminiun, 2m by 1m, and used the cardboard that came with it to make a template of the shape I needed, by taking a few measurements under the car. Used white paint where the nut holes go, that then marked the cardbourd, and louvre vents for the needed ventilation where the oil filter, turbos, and gearbox is. Used a nibbler to cut the shape out of the Alloy, and some cold weld and screws to fix the vents on. And because the Alloy is only 1.5mm thick I was able to manourver it in, and used a few nuts and bolts, and self tapping screws around the bumper.
