i think the 1.9TDI is better, more reliable engine

What can you get out of it though if properly and safely remapped

The 1.9 all safely mapped up should see you to 170+ BHP. But, most importantly, you will see way better mpg, and the 2.5 has a bad rep for (I think) the cams going. This happened to a friend recently who just bought a 2.5 TDI and a couple months and ££££'s later, he is back on the road. He is happy with it now, but I doubt I would have had the patience for it.

Looks like first it was leaking rocker cover gaskets, then leaking radiator, now...... water pump & timing gone as a result of a water pump failure.

Then, upon inspection, originally told 1 cam was needing replaced, on closr inspection now there removed i actually need 3!

bloody hollow cams but at least they've taken the impact to save the bottom end.

So if you do go for one, make sure you get a good warranty on it.

Better off with a re mapped 1.9 or 2.0 to be honest mate,2.5 not that great on fuel for the power it gives

Lol, that's my avant xs2man has linked to above, very common for the cams, waterpump or tensioners to go and take most of, if not all the engine with them,

Cost me 4200 to sort, well worth it, shame you don't have an s/rs to trade down with, I would possibly be interested

Agreed I.9 Tdi or 1.9t both are highly tunable, been impressed driving both cars
