£18-20k is bottom to middle end of the market.

20,000-30,000 mile cars are extremely rare for an almost 20 year old car and sell for £10,000 more than the prices you've listed above. Add on a further couple of thousand for an Avant version.

Cars with 80-100k miles sell for your price range outlined, you only have to have a 5 min look on Autotrader to see that.

For a 20k mileage cars I've seen auctions at over £50k.
For a 30k mileage car which has had everything done to it I wouldn't even bother looking unless I had a minimum of £30k

Yeah, exactly. I even paid £25k for a 70k mileage car. But this was because the car had every single job I was going to do already done to it, and all of the problem areas recently addressed, so the way I looked at it was I was spending £15k on the car and another £10k on the big jobs which I'd tallied up to do anyway. Plus I've always been a firm believer of buy on condition/jobs done, over mileage. I've seen and driven many B7's and often the lower mileage ones that have averaged 2-3k miles per year are in worse condition than those on average miles that have been looked after. These cars aren't designed to spend 11 months of the year sat doing nothing. You'll need to replace every bush, and address god knows what else has seized or corroded, plus part with an initial £30k in the process, like you've said. It's madness IMO.

He is dreaming if thinks he can get a car 20-30k under 20K????? I have been looking myself again, happy to look at cars with 80k miles as longs it has been well maintained.
Not Black or grey or red or silver. Must be a Avant.
