VERY RARE 1992/K AUDI S2 COUPE, £1 START NO RESERVE EBAY AUCTION - ENDS THURSDAY 11TH MAY AT 8PM!

Post by ogcsltd » Tue May 09, 2017 1:05 pm

Hi Guys

I took a very rare 1992/K Audi S2 Coupe in as a part exchange yesterday. Given it is quite unusual/difficult to value, I have decided to simply put it on a £1 start, no reserve Ebay auction over 3 days and sell it to the highest bidder! :audibash:

This ends on Thursday 11th May at 8pm and the link is below:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272663078105? ... 555.l2649
The Ebay Item number is 272663078105 otherwise if you just wish to search for it

Many thanks

Chris

Oh isnt it! thats why I have no idea what it was worth lol..but that said, to look at/drive it you would never guess. The folder of paperwork included is unreal and over 2 inches thick all in chronological order. Someone has spent a serious amount of money and without question it shows. I felt though the safest bet was to put the car on a £1 starting price and see where that ends up. Let experts such as you guys decide what its worth and hope for the best my end! I know it was previously listed and sold by a well known local Sports Car Dealership for £8k in 2015 but prices have moved a bit since then...but whether that was a realistic price for it back then, who knows? equally so, there isnt anything with that mileage to compare it with....though specs vary a bit as does condition etc.

So we will see what happens but it has 139 Watchers on Ebay at present and something like 2100 hits since listing at 8pm yesterday.

Thanks

There is one user who seems to have been winning my car from placing bids from just under £3000 up to its present bid. They have a feedback score of 483 and appear to have great feedback. I have only had 1 person ask questions about the car and 3 phone calls on it today. There are 7 bidders on the vehicle, well over 2000 hits and 149 watchers - all since 8pm yesterday.

Frankly I have no idea when this will end on the bidding. I can tell you though that I paid significantly less than the price its up to as a part exchange because I genuinely have no idea what it is worth! I felt what I paid for it was safe and hence putting it on a £1 starting price in the first place. I can assure you there is absolutely no need for me to 'shill bid' given all this.

So you don't know how much it's worth, yet you took it in in p/x?!

Well clearly I have no idea what it's worth because at £6.5k that exceeds my expectations by some way!

To put it into perspective, I had an hour to put a price on a fairly rare, 310k mile car that has admittedly been very well maintained...but has still done 310k miles! There are a handful for sale at massively varying prices. And then whilst they are advertised at that, are they selling? Both CAP and Glasses Guide tools will not even generate a valuation due to its age....and in any case, on Specialist vehicles seem to be extremely inaccurate. This car is an earlier model....whereas what is for sale are later cars, and I had/have no idea what is more desirable! Hopefully you can see why this is a tough car to value with some associated risk if you go too high.

There are a couple of significantly lower mileage examples around the £16-20k mark. I therefore priced the car accordingly as a part exchange taking into consideration the defects listed and the fact I ultimately needed to generate a small profit from it being sold on.

Regarding resale, I had no intention of my workshop completing any work etc due to our current workloads and have very much described it 'as is' including defects. This also makes it tricky to be sure what it's worth.

Due to its rarity though and owing me a relatively small amount of money when factoring in the cash I also made on the vehicle sold to the seller, I have taken a small gamble and put it on a £1 starting bid with no reserve. The only comparable cars are at a much higher value but have done 150-200k less miles! Looking at say Audi Coupes as a whole, the prices didn't seem to dip below a few thousand pounds and this is an S2 after all.

But let's just say I am more than happy with the price it's already reached which has far and away exceeded my expectations. Obviously if it goes for more money I will be thrilled and it has over 200 watchers at this stage with over 3000 views in just over 24 hours.

I mainly deal in BMW's and clearly have no idea when it came to this cars specific desirability/value! There is genuinely no hidden agenda here...

I don't see what the problem is here? The OP is selling a car with a starting price of £1, even if he is ''shill bidding?'' (never heard of that before), if someone wants to but the car they'll buy it at the higher price, OR the OP gets stuck with the car! He's come on here saying he doesn't know a fair price for the car, most on here have babies in sale adverts saying ''you'll only get what someone wants to pay for it'', er, surely an auction is the way of knowing just that?????

Thanks very much for the comments above. Honestly this is the situation and it is also really intriguing to see what it ends up selling for. If it was a 'run of the mill', newer standard model Audi etc there are multiple examples around to compare it to...but thats not the case here. I also priced it with a view to not sitting on it for ages. I once took a 1987 635 BMW in and priced that at what appeared to be 'market value' based on others around. I ended up owning that car for a year and made next to no money on it. It had 19 people view it in that space of time. I don't want that situation again!

I have also managed to find out that the current bidder is genuine and based in Lancashire having dropped them a message last night.

Anyway, I guess by 8pm tomorrow we will know what the outcome is and hopefully whoever gets it is genuine!

Good luck with it, looks a really clean car. Its great that these old 80's and 90's coupes are appreciating in value, you just don't see them on the road anymore.
