Is this a really stupid / bad idea to try and advertise pictures of your car?
Genius or Tool?
I vote Tool.

Just looked at the advert. It looks like it is at that supercar dealer (Tom Hartley) for sale but says private. He has a purpose built puddle for taking photos of cars.

I think professional photos can highlight a car enthusiasts who's been passionate about the car so would definitely catch my eye.

I would rather buy a car it's nice photos taken by a photographer which shows the guy takes pride in his car rather than some of the crappy Main Street or house drive pictures people use.

Professional images absolutely sell a car, but that image is utter garbage. Its obvious when someone with zero talent pics up a decent camera, sticks it on auto and takes a bad picture with no idea about composition.
You can learn the functions of a camera but composition and capturing the essence of a moment in time using one as your tool is something you have a talent and an eye for or not - it cannot be learned. Same as painting, you can't learn to paint a beautiful picture, you can learn how to mix colours and pick up a brush, but you either have it or you don't - or to draw on an analogy more appropriate to the current topic - you can put on a racing suit, but it doesn't mean you're Senna.
Image should be cropped like this IMO:
If not a little tighter if you don't want the w8nky background distraction!

Jaysrs4 - Agree!! Bit of cropping makes a big difference!

Your cropping machine is a bit wonky though.

A bit of background is cool. But that first photograph is 95% background, with a tiny thumbnail-sized car squashed down in the bottom left corner. Odd
Edit - actually, looking at the pic again, the car takes up even less than 5% of the frame!
