For Sale: Laser Red Audi S4 plus choice of parts

Post by confusionhunter » Mon Mar 21, 2011 1:25 pm

Right gents….. tough times means tough measures. So Ive been having some thoughts. Giving the enthusiast first pick before pistonheads/ebay etc....
The S4 will be up for sale in 2/3 months. IE end of may/beginning of June. Not now, Im still enjoying it! I’m secretly hoping I’ll have to keep it….. but kiddie on the way and 5 cars, this is the ‘weekend needless play thing’ so its first on the hitlist. I’m not in any rush and putting the feelers out for interest in the car itself, in whatever spec the new owner is willing to pay for.

Now, This is complicated! So excuse the massive explanation! Longest ‘put the feeler out’ post in history!

Now the car is currently in ‘mega’ spec but currently has the XS power Manifolds on which I would never sell on to anyone. So I am planning an engine pull regardless.
Now to maximise return on previous investment Im basically planning to put the car back to standard. The plan is to put the Original engine back in (90k on the clock). The 500 hp engine was a spare engine from my last S4 and will either be split for parts or fitted to another project car. However there will be bits for sale from that, but more on that later.

Think of this as a real life Gran Tourismo!. If you want the car, Pick your spec, the price varies, std or modded option (or indeed even bits you want fitted!). I think the parts at these prices will sell without too much bother.

Basically the buyer of the car would have first dibs on any of the bits that I can leave fitted to the car for the cost of the second hand value and would also get the std parts should they wish to swap and sell on later.
Now there are a lot of mega spec bits on the car so I should say that the car buyer, then my Brother in law and then Lewis already have dibs on various bits! Only then it would be a free for all, so no offers on parts yet please.

So the car:

Laser Red 1998/9 S4 Avant 94k miles, Engine only 90k on the clock.
Car will have 12 months MOT and roughly 6mths Tax, Car is near Edinburgh.
Only 3 former keepers on V5.

Spec list is basic car as intended. Unless it says other wise all parts, wheels, brakes, engine parts, running gear etc will be std.
As you will see from the build thread, anything that had been needed has been done.

Spec: S4 bits
VGC Full Black Leather with arm rest, Carbon trim, boost gauge in Vent. (Wide band zeitronix, lambda read out NOT included!)
LCD DIS panel replaced by tektronic.
Sports leather steering wheel(std)
Audi/Bose Concert 9 speaker Stereo upgrade
Ski Bag (will need to check that actually!)
Heated Front Seats,
Climate Control, recharged last year(std)
Xenon Headlights and halogen sidelights (facelifted headlights fitted)
Fog lights(STD)
Usual Power steering, electric windows, electric mirrors, Servo brakes etc etc.
Std gearknob and shifter (‘transformaknob’ is staying with me!).

Body Chassis/transmission:
Subframes have been wire brushed and treated with black smoothrite, facelift headlights have been fitted.
Prop shaft seal to rear diff has been replaced.
Gearbox oil replaced 4k miles ago.
Front wheel arches rolled
RS4 boot spoiler.
Front Bumper resprayed (stone chips)
Got Dentmaster to sort out the small dent in the drivers side wing (still present in the above photo!)
Cupra R Front Splitter

Engine:
Base spec will include:
- MRC remap, Approx 330hp
- Pre cats gutted,
- Turbos checked and oil lines cleaned..
- Fresh synta gold oil and filter(I have a large 20l bucket I still have!).
- Health check Inlet pressure test will be completed along with clean Vagcom logs.
- Full Audi Service History to 80kish (will need to check), car then service by specialists, car previously owned by ‘Fade2grey’ on rs246 so enthusiast owned.
- New Timing belt, water pump, thermostat, belt tensioner and all belt pulleys fitted
- Cylinder heads replaced with S4 heads from 80k miler engine bought from MRC Tuning.
- MAF will be checked for flow readings.

Bad bits:
One of the heated seats doesn’t work.... I’ll look at it before sale, might be a fuse for all I know.
Laquer as peeled off on a 2 square inch patch on the bonnet. I don’t think its that noticeable, but its there.
Best to change rear Diff oil, only thing I haven’t done on the servicing side.

History detail:
I bought the car with a knackered timing belt and bent valves. I have previously rebuild an S4 and thought it had a knackered engine and had bought a spare engine. It didn’t so I had had a spare engine and been collecting bits for a long time. The 500 spec engine is actually my spare engine not the original from this car. The original will be serviced and refitted with 4k less miles than on the car. My last rebuilt S4 I sold to my brother in law and he has since done 40 odd k trouble free (aside the usual coil pack MAF issues) since. Feel free to PM VenomAuzS4 on AudiSRS.com. Also see build thread: http://www.scottishvag.net/viewtopic.php?f=72&t=25108

Myself:
I feel I should say a little about myself, and the circumstance relating to this sale. After all certainly in enthusiast circles reputation can account for a lot and can provide a lot of information. Don’t really want to sell as I’ve always wanted one even since I sold my last and I may have another one! BUT I have 5 cars and a baby on the way and this car sees very little use.

I have mechanical sympathy…..I run 4 turbo cars including the S4 and am well aware of the need to allow the turbos and oil to cool down and warm up.
I check with Vag Com block 02/03, 32 and 115 for boost and fuel trim etc etc regularly. I enjoy keeping on top car maintenance. If something isn’t right I’ll investigate till I find it till I get to the bottom of the problem, plus I like to know how things work. I even investigated voltage drop to fuel pumps on a possible running lean problem on my G40 (it was actually just a crap earth on the AFM gauge itself!!) ……I have gathered a wealth of knowledge on this and various other forums and am happy to help the new owner going forward. And lastly I would ask if the new owner decides to sell, I would like first refusal to buy it backl!
I have rebuilt so many engines VAG, motorbikes etc and I’m reasonably well known in the Scottish VW scene as a mechanic geek type.

Right for the basic car I think this is fair seeing the fresh servicing and low mileage and little in the way of faults. Happy to carry out healthcheck/pressure test and Vagcom at collection.
£5k
(£4995 ono if that make you feel better!) Looking at the other cars on pistonheads I think this is pretty competitive bearing in mind all the std parts (so not as it appears in the picture), no FMIC, std wheels and suspension.

I have loads of picture of the work done etc so just give me a shout.

Right now for the shopping list. Should the buyer want these following bits then simply add to the list! Clearly Im looking for a good return and obviously Im willing to split the car seeing I have to do an engine pull already (and Ive worked on these things so often it doesn’t take me long!) So these prices are based on what I think I can get for the parts second hand plus P&P. Depending on the amount taken I can of course work out some sort of bulk discount or something. Prices are of course open to negotiation and just a ball park at the mo. Unfortunately this car is worth more in bits, added all up your looking at rs4 money, but then some of these parts are beyond RS4 spec.

OK
-Wheels Tyres, B7 RS4 reps, 19inch only done 3.5k ish miles, NO kerbing mated to part worn 4-5mm wear left on all tyres(will check) Pirelli P Zero Rosso’s (235/35 R8 front tyres all round) as above pics
£500

-Stasis Motorsport Suspension, Height and rebound adjustable (set up perfectly at the moment) Aggresseive street set up using 700/800lb springs. Using Koni shocks (not the ohlins with external res in the below link) but same everything else: springs, hardware, platforms etc. I bought 2 new front dampners direct from stasis last year costing over 500 notes (plus import nonsense) http://www.stasisengineering.com/Catego ... =50&PID=88
Absolute mega bucks new, beats the crap out of the H&R coilovers I had on my old S4.
£900
New owner really needs to take these..... daft if you don’t..... note: chassis modification is required to fit and to make them adjustable on the car

-H&R Anti Roll bars Front and Rear (thicker), Including MRC Rear subframe strengthening brackets x2, and the MRC Rear ARB super stiff brackets x2 (less than 2500 miles (didn’t fit them straight away) AND S2 metal drop links (if I still have the std ones).
£300

-Front Brakes, 6 pot Porsche Cayanne callipers in red, mounting brackets and Porsche bolts, RS6 (c5) Discs, almost no wear, Yellow stuff EBC pads plenty, Goodridge braided flexi hoses, kit ready to fit and use
£850
Image

-Rear Brakes, B5 RS4 disks and callipers, RS4 std pads, decent meat left, good wear left in the discs too, callipers painted red,
£200

-Exhaust, Ultimate full Turbo Back exhaust system IMHO..... Custom 3 inch full system with 2 straight through boxes using mandrel bends, flanged cat bypass pipes (one pipe with boss for wide band lambda) for easy swap out for cats, I have cats to put in (std S4 ones) that will get through an MOT but not for performance use!! Sale will INCLUDE a modified ESP Drivetrain Stabiliser (DTS) to clear the Exhaust, will include downpipes. Dual 3 inchers are usually fitted to the top power S4/RS4s.

NO fuel injectors (separate). Note no RS4 Turbo intake pipes (for sale with turbos!)
Image
I have no idea, theres a lot of stuff here and its rare sooo... may well change thinking about keeping the air filter etc.... If owner keeps KO4s I’ll need to retain turbo intake pipes
£1200

right folks, I'm open to interest on the parts now.
RS4 intake, NA Heads are reserved and some dibs on other parts.
As suspected, splitting it and putting closer to standard is clearly the way forward.

Have you put it back to standard yet?

Would you sell it with everything fitted ?

Hiya, no, I'll do it in stages. Got a buyer of the heads, rs4 intake and injectors, so I'll run it on KO4s std s4 intake with RS4 injectors for a bit. so Im going to do a head swap with the engine in place.
Happy to sell with bits on for the right offer of course.
Mark.
