TTRS ownership - 3 months in...
Re: TTRS ownership - 3 months in...
So, since we're comparing apples to oranges, let's play a little game:
You're about to commence a Top Gear-esc style challenge, however, before the envelope is handed over and all is revealed. You have to chose between four cars parked in front of you.
On the left - B7 RS4 'loon
Center left - TTRS Cab (S-tronic or Manual)
Center right - B7 RS4 avant
On the right - TTRS coupe (S-tronic or Manual)
Which car do you snatch the keys for and jump into?

Re: TTRS ownership - 3 months in...
I think mine is great, good fun but a little feminine.
Budget would only allow TTRS or RS3 and needed a better MPG than RS4, also wanted warranty.
Desire is totally individual and I preferred the TTRS over RS3.

Cheers for clearing that up DK - I knew about the weight but certainly never realised the quattro bias was different between RS3 & TTRS...___ wrote:The key differences dynamically between the TTRS and RS 3 are
- weight (TT is lighter)
- chassis (TT is part aluminium vs. A 20yr old A3 platform)
- quattro bias (A3 was far to FWD bias and chew'd my front tyres in 8k)

Thanks for your opinions - it seems we're generally thinking along similar lines, although you managed to summarise it far more succinctly than I did!psg001 wrote:i've had the TT RS nearly 18 months now, having had the RS4 for just under 3 years. Re: TTRS ownership - 3 months in...
A method to my madness will become apparent soon enough, anyone else want to dip into the Top Gear challenge? It's kinda telling that there aren't any takers for a TTRS...

Re: TTRS ownership - 3 months in...
I would say both Sevy, me and most others are happy with our purchases. The RS4 is a very tough act to keep up with.
Like you say though Bam, oranges and apples,
It would be great to hear that V8 + Milly on cold start in my garage again, it used to make my spine tingle ( and the neighbours windows shake ).

Re: TTRS ownership - 3 months in...
Agree with you on both counts there Jay. I posted the same review on the TT forum - as expected the majority of those who've commented like the TTRS and haven't questioned my comparison relative to the RS4, but then most of them probably haven't owned one. However, the couple of guys who have made the same move from RS4 to TTRS are clearly happy with their purchases, even if they may or may not prefer the RS4...Boggle73 wrote:I would say both Sevy, me and most others are happy with our purchases. Re: TTRS ownership - 3 months in...
Not really, looking at who's joined the challenge so far. DK and yourself were always going to for the B7 in one form or another, and Paul as a current B7 Avant owner was always likely to go that way too. Boggle, whilst being a TTRS owner, has hinted that he still loves the RS4 so again no great surprise that he's opted for that here.bam_bam wrote:A method to my madness will become apparent soon enough, anyone else want to dip into the Top Gear challenge? As for me, well I'm hedging my bets. These days, a Top Gear-esque challenge could be pretty much anything, so the sensible thing to do is go for the best all rounder, which as I said in my review (if practicality is a factor) is the RS4. If there had been a hint about the nature of the challenge and it was pointing towards 0-60 acceleration or bigger fuel range for example, then my choice may have been different. But with nothing yet revealed about the challenge, the RS4 has to be the choice as the best all rounder…
The average Top Gear challenge might for example be “You must transport a family of 4 in comfort to France, with 4 suitcases and their kitchen sink (literally)”…which is why I’ve plumped for the B7 Avant as the safe bet.
Or maybe “You must drive down a cobbled street at 30mph with Captain Slow in the passenger seat. The Captain is holding a full piping hot cup of his favourite Earl Grey tea, and the winner is the one that doesn’t scald the Captain’s genitals”…which the RS4 would win with the smoother ride.
So do we have to wait for another 5 people to sign up before we find out what the challenge is…assuming I've not already guessed right and it’s not the kitchen sink holiday or the scalded balls thing?
