A happy new TTRS owner

Post by sevy » Mon Jan 07, 2013 2:17 pm

Well, it’s been a long & patient wait, but I finally picked up my long term replacement for my departed B7 RS4. I know a lot of you on here don’t rate the TTRS and they have the reputation of being a bit 'gay hairdresser', but I like them and so far am very happy…

I set myself a low budget for a relatively high list of desirable spec items, so finding the right car was not easy. However, the right car at the right price came up just before Christmas and I picked her up on Saturday. Anyway, here’s the spec:

59 plate
Sepang Blue with silver leather sports seats
19” Titanium Rotor alloys
40k miles
Mobile Phone Prep
BOSE
Sat Nav +
Audi Music Interface
Cruise Control
Hill Hold Assist
Rear Parking Sensors
Privacy Glass
Adaptive Headlights

Being honest I wouldn’t have picked the silver leather, but having seen it in the flesh I actually really like it - the contrast with the relatively dark exterior works well and the light coloured door cards brighten up the cabin too.

Bought the car from Coulsdon Audi, and have to say the service provided throughout was excellent. The sales executive Jed Callan could not do enough for me and went out of his way on several occasions to make the whole process as easy/pleasurable for me as possible. Really down to earth & genuine guy too…if only all salesmen were as good as him. 8)

My initial impressions having owned it for a couple of days are that the power delivery from that engine is superb (makes it ‘feel’ faster than my RS4 did – not necessarily better – just different) and the exhaust note is addictive in sport mode (even though it’s quiet compared to a V8!). The ride is a little firm but not uncomfortable and the car just seems to want to stick to the road. I like the cabin and love the looks – in my opinion sepang blue just suits the car so well. Too early to say how I’ll get on with it longer term, but for now I'm one very happy new owner... :P

Here are a few pics I took whilst it was still clean:

A happy new TTRS owner

Well done sevy
They are great little cars...I think I appreciate them abit more now I'm in an RS 3 as they are faster than a '3, sound much better than the '3 and do better MPG than the '3...they also handle better than the '3 but I still wouldn't say handle well compared to a B7 or R8.

They look great in your spec.

See you've got the manual...never driven a manual.

they have their pitfalls, ride quality and practicality come to mind

But behind a V10 R8, I'd say its the fastest Audi on the road in the UK on A/B roads in anything other than dry conditions...epic traction.

When is it going into MRC for the 410PS upgrade??

Thanks! I’ve not looked in the B8 forum for a while so didn’t even know you’d got yours now. Just seen the pics and that looks the absolute business….nice colour combo

Thanks Dave – I’m chuffed that I managed to get pretty much my ideal spec and I think it does look the business (for a TT!). :)

I would’ve loved to go s-tronic but they didn’t come out til much later so way over my budget for now. Having said that, the manual feels good with nice short-shift gear changes.

I agree that the handling doesn’t match up with the DRC and proper Quattro from the B7, but it doesn’t half stick to the road…like it’s on rails! Interesting though that you feel it’s beats the RS3 at a few things…bearing in mind the Audis you’ve owned/driven I’ll take that as a compliment towards the little TT!

I can understand the TT being faster & better on economy as it’s a lighter car, and I guess the same applies to handling. But why does the TT sound better than the RS3 – are they not the same exhaust systems?

As for MRC, that’s definitely on the cards at some point for a stage 1 remap – one of the reasons I bought this is because they’re so tuneable. My plan at the moment is to leave it stock…possibly until the 12 month Audi warranty expires…although not sure I can be that patient! For now though it feels fast enough... 8)

TTRS sounds MUCH better!
Might just be the rear seats etc blocking the sound in the RS 3 but I do miss the TTRS sound!

I've ordered a TTRS PLUS for July delivery, it comes with sports zorst as std, can't wait...Have gone for sepang also

Btw, get the secondary cat bypass pipes fit...cost about 100£ and add more sound

Thanks Tim - I loved my sprint blue RS4 but I'm liking sepang blue even more. Yes it's a change alright - bye bye to practicality but am loving the instant torque & acceleration from that turbo 5 pot engine!

Hmmm, interesting. Am surprised there's that much difference in sound between the two - guess the TT only has midget seats in the back so the exhaust noise is closed to the driver than it is in the RS3...

TTRS Plus...nice...and in the best colour! You get pretty much all the decent options from the normal TTRS as standard don't you with the Plus, as well as the increase in power? I test drove an RS with the sports zorst...sounded fantastic. That's the one thing I wish mine had...but I can always go aftermarket at some point if I crave more noise.

Do the secondary cat bypass pipes make much difference then? And do you need to get them reversed for MOT?
