History repeating

Just out of interest I thought I would take a look back to the beginning of the RS4 B7 forum to see what the chatter was like when that was launched. Have to say it sounds very similar to this launch right now. Lots of stuff about Audi loosing the plot with the styling, why have they dropped the turbos, made for the US market, won't ever sell my B5........ and it goes on.

I wonder what we will all be saying about the B8 in a couple of years time?

Although I haven't looked back on the forum. I remeber there being quite a buzz around the B7, reviews were glowing, I remeber reading 'Best Audi since the quattro' first RS to better an M3, Clarkson raving about it. People were excited, it is probably THE most accomplished RS Audi of them all.

My thoughts as well. Maybe people don't want to accept they haven't got the latest and possibly best car on the market?

Admitedly I wasn't sold on the B7 platform looks over my B6 S4 when the facelift happened and I wasn't a B5 RS4 owner at the time but when I saw one at the launch and then read articles and then to top it off saw Top Gear vs. climbers I knew I wanted one straight away; the RS4 made the facelift work becaue it looked that much more agressive. Then sensible head went on and it took a year to eventually own one used.

This time though maybe it is because I am spoiled in owning a B7 RS4 that the B8 does not appeal as much as when I saw the B7 owning a B6 S4. Maybe everyone including journalists been spoiled by the B7 and the R8 but you have to say the reviews have not been as favourable as when the B7 came out so it is either because we have all been spoiled or it just isn't that much of a step forward in any area. 25% more fuel efficient on fuel cycle but if you try to drive it to get the same performance out of it as in a B7 I'm guessing possibly only 5-10% more efficient if that. Better ICE but then we are 6 years on, should that not be the case? Beter to look at, subjective. Better chassis tech no doubt, but does that make it a better car?

So maybe in some respects history is repeating itself but time will tell whether it is more relevant for previous generation owners not to be impressed this time.

At least the B7 was a dynamic improvement over the B5.
The b8 doesn't even get DRC as standard...

I did the same not too long ago agree. It occurred to me that Audi is absolutely fine with how it's playing out. They haven't dropped the ball.

Sites like RS246 attract enthusiasts who have strong opinions. But there's not a lot of point venting too much about it: we don't represent the market for a new B8 RS. This motley crew just ain't were the money is for a new B8 and the bean counters Audi know it.

oh and p.s. Amar, I love my DRC :kissmyrings:

I also went from b5 to b7 and dare say i will go to a b8 too, theres alot i like about the b8 over the b7 but sorting the power and lack of grunt will cost a bomb like it did with my b7.Its flawed which is disappointing as the b8 appears to not even of stayed the same in some areas its gone backwards! Ultimately though when your looking for a fast quality 4wd car your options are.........limited,im going to stick my neck out and say that if its not good enough in the flesh il sell my tdi and rs4 and go for one does all b8 tdi.Its got to be good to warrant the running cost imo

This is an Audi forum, son. You make me sick with your immigrant inter-VAG sympathiser rhetoric, go and push your hippy, communist, new wave crap in the adversaries forum.

p.s. Vote BNP.
