Valves not opening in Dynamic

Post by IshyB » Tue Dec 17, 2024 12:34 am

Hi all, new to this…
Finally took the plunge & leaped into B8 heaven.

Need some help/advice/assistance in regards to Exhaust Valves not opening in Dynamic mode, thus muting the car somewhat.

Upon checking the right side valve opens however the left doesn’t. I’ve pushed it open with a screwdriver however once you switch drive modes or switch the car off is closes again & fails to open in Dynamic mode.

Anyone else experienced this?

Any recommendations on what needs to be done?

Yes and quite common.

get a load of carb cleaner / brake cleaner in their first to get the carbon off over a few days then hit it with wd40 or similar and smack it with your screwdriver :)

Another B8 owner here where the left hand exhaust flap is stuck. Mine is however always stuck in the open position. I've had some success with cleaning around the valve with carb/brake cleaner and then lubricating it, but after a few months it is stuck again. The right hand side works as expected.

Such a bad design that you're unable to replace them without replacing the whole rear section, but some elbow grease should be able to free it up again. You'll want the car up high though so you can get good access to the outside lever on the valve.

Also, if you wanted to disable them and always want them open, disconnect the vacuum line and stick a bolt in the end of the vacuum line to shut off the gap.
