Oil
Oil
Hello. I know this question has been asked numerous times but thought I'd ask what oil everyone uses and if they follow the guidelines set out in the owners manual (VW 504 00 for flexible services and VW 502 00 for fixed services). I have a 2014 model with 49000 on the clock. I do roughly 5000 miles a year so fall into the fixed service category (if my understanding of fixed is correct). My local Audi have just serviced the beast and used 5w 40. They say this is the correct one for the car. Does everyone agree?
Re: Oil
My local Audi dealership uses the same oil irrespective of service regime and model - they always use 5/30's, usually Castrol (to VW 504/507 spec).
They will supply / use a cheaper oil if the customer requests it - usually Quantum.

Re: Oil
5w30 for flex, 5w40 for fixed according to manual
always 5w30 at a stealer
dealer said to me (off the record), Audi bulk buy their oil and 'recommend' whatever they can get cheapest, and whatever they have big stock of.
I first noticed this in my x5 days. I had it 7 years, BMW changed their mind on the oil 4 times.
To throw a final spanner in the works, shell recommended 0w30, which I used for the last 5000 miles, which cured a timing chain tensioner fault which I wasn't looking forward to fixing at all.
The fact is, you're more than likely going to be fine with all 3. Blasphemy I know lol. But for fast street driving, I think it true imo.

Re: Oil
Using 5W-40 seems reasonable, especially if it aligns with the VW 502 00 specification for fixed services. However, it's always a good idea to cross-check the oil grade with your owner's manual to ensure compatibility, as some engines have specific needs. Do you know if your local Audi dealership explicitly confirmed the oil matches VW 502 00 standards? Also, given that you drive only 5,000 miles annually, do you plan on servicing the car once a year, or are you considering extending intervals?
