Advice on buying RS4

Post by Philippe07 » Mon Apr 22, 2024 6:17 pm

Hi,
New to the forum. The last 5 years been looking at RS4’s on and off. Been thinking of pulling the trigger. Found an interesting one with a couple of question marks though.

The good
- full Audi service
- 1 owner 10 years
- all devices were done as recommended by Audi
- original paint and accident free +-200 micron all around.
- interior looks pristine (lot of highway mileage?)
- price is good
The bad
- 150k km
- new front discs 6 months/5000km old but Judder
- still original DRC
- ugly OEM wheels
- not highly optioned
- No warranty

Price is good. But bit scared of the brake judder and DRC.
I have read some threads about both.

The judder can be different things. Worst, new discs etc.
Maybe braking in again will sort it.
The dealer has driven some miles on it. Hope the car didn’t got beaten up during these miles. overheated discs?

The DRC, from what I have read ALL will end up with problems. I have one friend with a RS6 8yo. No problems.
But that’s 1 car ofcourse.

Thinking about buying it if PPI is good and if I can get the price down a bit.

What do you guys think?

I think those are winter wheels arnt they?

I too would be worried. Your 1.5k into new brakes if your not careful.

DRC is one of those unknowns. Are you near an audi garage?

Owner had one set of wheels. Audi switched summer and winter tyres every season.

An independent can do the PPI at dealer that sells the car.
He won’t go trough the hassle of getting it at an Audi garage.

1,5k for brakes I can calculate into my offer.
The DRC bill is what I’m really worried about.
Or are there more cars out there that don’t get issues?

the drc bill has reduced a little since the heydays and you cvan get shocjs for about a grand a corner. The issue is you will have to trailer it to a garage that is capable of servicing it, many dont.

Mine runs KWv3's for this reason. about 3k all in.

Those are the original 19" wheels, as opposed to the 20" V-spokes or the 20" five spoke wheels which I forget the name of (edit, I remember now - Rotor). They look in good nick.

I suspect it is one of the early cars (with a 10 year single owner), has it got an OV62 reg?

I've had mine for almost 11 years and it was a dealer demonstrator that I bought before they were supposed to sell it off the lot. Personally I like the 19" wheels and they do improve the ride a bit. One advantage of buying the demonstrator is that you don't get buyer regret from speccing the wrong items!

What's an OV62? It's a Dutch car.

Yeah. The wheels grew on me. The 20" LM V rims look better but soo fragile it seems.

Still haven't bit the bullit and negotiating on price. Looks like a lot of higher mileage cars +120k kms don't get sold and are droppin in price.

At 120k km works were performed for the intake manifold. Removal and diagnostics, new hoses, etc.
Anyone knwows what this could be about? A known problem?

"What's an OV62? It's a Dutch car."

Ah, didn't realise it was Dutch! Audi's UK demonstrators and early models are often registered in the Oxford area. An OV62 prefix to the registration number indicates an Oxford area registered in late 2012 (i.e just after the B8 came out).
