Which Dash Cam ?

Must be an age thing, I'm thinking more often about getting a dash cam the last wee while, not only because of the <beep> roads and a potential claim but more for idiot drivers and to help keep me in the clear in the event of a smash.
Anyone got one fitted, don't mind spending a bit, and can fit myself. Any recommendations would be helpful.
Cheers

@stuartbarriskell I've got a Nextbase fitted, 322 model, with a rear facing camera also fitted in case of a rear end shunt!! Bought a hard wire kit so its not in fag lighter, down side, the fuse is in boot on right hand side so its not permently on.
Hope that helps, had several Nextbase fitted to various car. Would recommend a good memory card, cheap ones dont last in camera!!

Yea, that helps. I started to wonder about power and run a lead along the footwell area and up into the door frame. Is it a piggyback fuse connector? Why is it not on all the time? Do you mean when the car is switched off.

Yeah, the Nextbase hardwire kit uses a piggyback fuse connector for power. Think the fag lighter is constant live, not 100% sure, but I have set camera to self turn off after a certain amount of time, as I used to work away and always forgot to turn it off, queue flat battery!!
Hope this helps,
p.s. hardwire kit cables are long enough to run length of car

Excellent I'll wait till the better weather comes in and get stuck into it..
The fag lighter power plug is horrible, so did you take a feed out the back of the wiring to it or did you run the line rear to front

I've also been thinking about this, for pretty much the same reasons as Stu.
The rear view mirror has power, I'm assuming it's not possible to connect to this and avoid having to route cables?

Used fuse in boot and run power cable to front under plastic panels at bottom of doors and then up A pillar and across top of windscreen

My dashcam comes with parking mode so needs permanent and switched live feeds. It was easy enough to run the power cable down the a pillar into drivers side fuse box using piggy back fuses.

Funnily enough, I came across this. I've to send the guy pics of the mirror mount left and right. Seems they do them for our particular models...
Looks pretty easy to fit, no pissing about trying to get a feed from the fuse box and then a cable run.
