Potential RS4 Owner Service Question
Good day all,
Considering trading in my '17 BMW 640d for a '14 RS4, 3 owners, with around 38k on the clock. Its an itch that i require scratching hugely, as I've wanted to own an RS4 for many many years!
I've trawled this forum regards new ownership & what to look out for etc, & the fact that a low mileage car with FSH should be what to aim for. Please see below the service history etc in chronological order that I acquired from the dealer & see if this fits the bill:
8927 miles - Oil, oil/pollen filter change (ind garage) Feb '16
16627 miles - Oil, oil/pollen filter change (ind garage) Feb '17
24550 miles - Full service + brake fluid, gearbox oil, final drive oil (Audi London) Mar '18
29634 miles - Oil service (Audi London) Jul '19
34008 miles - Oil service, filters, spark plugs (Ind garage) Jun '21
34207 miles - Front brake linings & discs replaced (Ind garage) Jul '21
37297 miles - Air con service & regas (ind garage) Jul '22
37810 miles - oil service & filter (ind garage) Sept '22
No mileage indicated - NSR shock replaced (ind garage) Sept '22
No mileage indicated - DRC Service, suspension oil replaced (ind garage) Oct '22
A little detailed, I know, but just wanted overall thoughts on this level of service - good, ok, great??
Am i right in thinking that come 40k miles, there's quite a degree of work to be carried out, final drives, brakes etc?
Thank you!!
Mark

Re: Potential RS4 Owner Service Question
Couple of things that stand out to me is it seems quite strong money and the wheels have been refurbished at least once, probably more. They need doing again and I don't think there is enough metal left to cut. Also they should have a matt finish not gloss.
Might be worth finding out who the indy garage is who has serviced it. Does it come with the invoices.

Re: Potential RS4 Owner Service Question
Agreed. Seems a little on the steep side, but then I thought that was maybe because of the low mileage. The dealer has sent me all of the receipts/invoices of the work done.
Noted about the wheels.

Re: Potential RS4 Owner Service Question
Nice car!
IIRC the 40K service is mostly about fluids, engine, gearbox and diffs and I paid around £700 for that at a main dealer. It looks like it missed an oil change in '20, but covid and all that I suppose. Apart from that the mileage and service history looks pretty much like my car tbh (Audi rather than Indy, so far...)
Keep us posted!

Re: Potential RS4 Owner Service Question
It looks pretty good! Fits all my spec requirements bar the wheels - I much prefer the 5 arm rotors. But it is the most expensive B8 on AT.
There are a few on AT that I'm gradually narrowing down. Its a bit like buying a bloody house!...not one car ticks all the boxes. Having read through the pages on the forum, I think a higher mileage car with good SH etc & putting a few grand aside for maintenance/servicing etc is the way to go.
I really like this one in the link below, but aren't they RS5 wheels??

They are the RS4 wheels just done in black and then diamond cut.

Looks nice, was a previous number plate RS04 ZAP? Remember seeing it for sale privately not too long ago. If you’re looking for a low mile/low owner one a nice black example has come up on AT. 2015 with under 40kLopseychops wrote: ↑Wed Mar 13, 2024 4:24 pmHave put a deposit down on this one -

Re: Potential RS4 Owner Service Question
It’s a good looking car. Has all the spec I’m after, but slightly higher mileage than I wanted. I think they’ve had it on their books for a few months, but that is the correct plate - RS04 ZAP. Has 6 previous owners, but the service history is bang on.
Where as the one that you allude to is a lovely example (have just been sent a walk-round vid & a breakdown of the service history) I’m not a massive fan of those wheels, & it doesn’t have the B & O sound system. But I’m going to take a look at it anyway. I’ve no idea what the standard Audi sounds systems are like, coming from Harmon Karmon BMW set ups.

Re: Potential RS4 Owner Service Question
Blimey - 6 previous owners? That's going some...one of them must have been a bit of lardarse too looking at the drivers seat!!
It does look well, but Prism Silver isn't one of the 'faster' colours.....I know its personal preference, but many like their RS4 colour to make a statement!
Have you totted up the cost options on it? The factory options price they quoted seems quite high from what I can see on it - mine has more factory options including ceramics but the additional on the road price was around 16K, above list. Sellers do have a habit of quoting individual options that actually were standard, or part of a options package.
Being a 15 model, was it originally a 64, 15 or 65 reg? Sellers again conveniently miss that detail out....but it can affect the value somewhat (when you come to part with it).
The wheels have been refurbished as the edge of the rims are a more rounded profile than original, although with 6 owners, that is to be expected??
Just being devil's advocate, that's all....

Re: Potential RS4 Owner Service Question
tbh (and playing devils advocate as well) 6 owners isnt too bad, Its a desirable car and a lot of people just give them a go for a bit. Also some get scared when they get the first bill!
seats not bad and the wheels look great! lots and lots of dogs out there. it took me a few goes to fie one half decent and i had to drop the spec

I did think that looking at the mahoosive creases in the leather
The jury is out at the moment on this one, although I’ve just had a good conversation with the dealer of the car in the link below. Fantastic SH & really well looked after. Been with the same owner since 2016 & no expense spared. The mechanic who is checking it over as we speak is going to do a vid for me of the underside, brakes etc. Going to put a deposit on it & give them a visit at the weekend.

What spec did you compromise on in the end? Mine is pano roof, B & O system & full leather.
Re: Potential RS4 Owner Service Question
I personally like the look of the one at Maundrells - looks very tidy, with quite a reasonable spec, and the seats look well cared for. Not a fan of the wheels, but again that's personal preference...

Re: Potential RS4 Owner Service Question
It’s definitely grown on me, & I think I can forego the B & O system in favour of the fact that it’s near mint condition with a superb SH & only 2 owners. So much so in fact, that I’ve put a deposit down on it.
