Cabin Aircon/heater.

My car is noticeably taking longer than I expect to produce warm air through the Aircon system. Started noticing it a few weeks ago when the outside temperature started to dip..

I seldom move the cabin temperature which is set at a comfortable 23c, but again today, was dicking about the town, engine temp was bang on within the usual time period (whatever that is) and still blowing cold air after a good 10-15 mins.

If after this I jump on to the A82 and get the car up to 60/70 mph hot air starts pumping thru no problem.. Had a gas top up in the summer, fella said it needed diddly squat juice but topped up what it needed.

I know its a big lump, but I thought when the engine temp reached optimum, then warm air should follow...

Anyone else experience the same ?...

Still having this issue Stuart? Only driven mine once this week and didn't notice any issues heating up even cruising about at low speeds! Definitely getting into heated seat weather now...

Hope you get it sorted. No idea why it would do that on the RS but when I've had that in years gone by in my old mr2, it was usually because the coolant hadn't been bled properly.

Hey Vish, I just noticed this reply. For some reason, I'm not being notified, I'll need to check this.

Soooo.. here's the long answer ! I thought one of two things, Stat or Low Coolant in reservoir.

My car is due for an oil service, so Intended getting the stat whipped out and replaced at same time, I'd rather not have done this as it's an expensive job compared to the price of the part... my life and fate are seldom as straightforward, and low coolant was just too simple.. surely not !.

So I decided to check (eventually).. Inertia had wormed its way into my brain and or whatever reason, I hadn't popped the cap for a look see.

Wednesday last was a miserable day, and I couldn't ignore it any longer and popped the cap to find it was low ! Feeling nice and smug, I nipped to Halfords and purchased the correct fluid, topped up approx 500/600 mil and off I set, checked the level later that day to find the fluid way below the Min again.. all sorts of thoughts were flying, so I got the two litre bottle out, and she guzzled another litre, with thoughts of impending doom I checked later that night and twice since to find my car is indeed water tight and took almost 1.5 litres.

The relief was overwhelming hahaha..
