Start up.

Strange one this morning, jumped in, fired car up from cold, I know when running off the Choke, the engine note sounds pretty angry. However, it sounded as though I had blipped the throttle and hadn't touched it.

Stopped car, switched off, and tried twice more, the exact same thing happened. Was in and out of the car most of the day, and due to the engine being warm, there was no repeat of this.

Just done a scan there, picked up three faults.

03. ABS Brakes:
Tyre pressure warning from 2 weeks ago. Cleared.. New tyres going on tomorrow.

05: Start/Auth:
Replaced key battery last week. Cleared

46: Central Conv:
Short on Fuel Cap, it wasn't snapping closed as it usually does. I noticed this last 3 or 4 fuel stops..lubed up and worked the spring catch, hopefully fixed that too. Cleared.

Ran a fresh scan all good, but that was bizarre this morning. Need to nip out and get a look under the bonnet.

Anyone else have these symptoms at any time ?...

Haven't had anything similar albeit mine does sound quite angry from cold too! Take it it's fine after about 20 or 30 seconds? Is it just idling high initially or is it fluctuating? If it's just a high angrier idle from cold I wouldn't be too concerned unless it's fluctuating or doing anything else odd

Really bizarre, honestly, it sounded like I had blipped the throttle a fair bit, the revs rose noticeably, then immediately fell back, it caught me on the hop so wasn't really paying attention to the instruments, but I will tomorrow morning. Got that fear thing that hits you when something goes wrong with one of these lol.. you know..the s hit your pants stomach churner.. hahaha..

I had thought a scan would expose a problem, but nothing other than the three faults that were easily accountable .

Sounds pretty normal! checked mine earlier and it revs up to about 2k then drops back fairly quickly to a high idle while the air injection thing is working and then amazingly within 30 secs to a minute it's down to 6-700. My old mr2 turbo sits at about 1-1.1k for a good 5 or so minutes before it drops back.

Nah, it definitely wasn't normal, Vish. I know how the car sounds normally. It was as if I'd hit the gas for a second.. Anyhow, all good today. I'm not sure clearing these faults had any connection. I can't see it myself, but fingers crossed.

New tyres fitted today, rims recoated. Took the opportunity to Mic the discs.. ffs.. I'm that guy that stands in dogshite and there's a big rusty nail in the middle !.. discs are right on or just under the service limit..thankfully I've a new set and pads in garage

Also forked out near 500 quid on my old Volvo XC60, sold it to an ex's son, ABS light came on like an hour later, told him I'd fix it no matter what was wrong.. ABS sensor was gubbed, when they had it up on the ramp, they clocked a broken rear spring, so got a pair of HD springs fitted plus the sensor.. expensive day!ImageImageImageImageImage

Wheels/colour choice looks good. Sorry to hear about the rest at least you've got the discs/pads there (not looking forward to buying discs in the future!!)

The noise on a cold start up is the secondary air intake / pump which is intended to reduce initial exhaust emissions with higher than usual engine revs, and is perfectly normal. Usually lasts about 30 secs to a minute (on mine anyway), at which point the noise stops and the revs return to a normal idle.

Wasn't that johnnydog.. I know the car, it was as if the throttle was depressed, hasn’t done it since mind, and nothing flagged up in the scan..

How many miles has your car now done Stu? I seem to get 30k from front discs.

is it actually holding the revs higher or just sounding like it?
