Paint

Post by Rs4nutter » Sun Feb 12, 2023 5:22 pm

Afternoon all,
Just noticed on my osf wing the paint work is starting to bubble, has anyone had any joy getting paint work done under Audi warranty, or is this gonna be a paint Shop job?
Thanks

I would say that the most likely cause of the paint bubbling, ruling out any external contamination, is that a previous repair has not been done to the required standard. You may not be aware of any previous repair if the initial finish was good, but damp conditions or inadequate panel temperature or drying time between coats / lacquer are all factors that can cause bubbling or microblisters. Most decent body shops including Audi dealers should have a device that measures the thickness of paint on any given item, whether that be panels or wheels, and from this can establish whether it has in fact had a previous repair. If it has, and it wasn't done at an Audi approved workshop, then I doubt you have a leg to stand on. I doubt you you will have any redress anyway now, unless any repair was recent and can be shown to have been done by, or on behalf of an Audi dealership.

Took car back to Audi today, they measured paint thickness and sending info off to find out whether Audi will authorise the repair. However didnt sound very confident that they will do the job as he thought i'd bought the car from new!! Suppose to ring tomorrow 🤞🤞

@johnnydog Audi said it was outside the 3 year paint warranty and would not repair!! But did quote me £901 to respray and blend the wing to match drivers door and bonnet!! No thanks. Am going to e-mail and ask why they wont repair under the 12 year paint warrany that is offered with every car they sell, 🤞🤞

I have "worming" underneath the paint on the inside rear edge of the aluminium o/s front door skin. Audi dealer reckoned it was a warranty claim. Audi UK refused to pay. Agreed to it being a workmanship issue, but that doesn't qualify.

Evening all

Contacted second dealer, via Audi UK customer service, did the same, measure paint depth, photos etc.
Still waiting for decision on wether Audi will honour their 12 year paint warranty!!

And best of all, they send car off to an accident repair Shop for the work to be done!!

Have now got somewhere with this. Car is booked in September to have the front wing done, have to pay a contribution towards the cost, however, Audi have said they will service the car for me while they have it, plus the use of a car while mines in.

Hopefully like for like 🤞🤞

Fingers crossed its a good job!!
