Selling car

Post by Fluke84 » Mon Jan 16, 2023 7:14 pm

Currently have my car up for sale.
Had a buyer over yesterday.
Said he was interested in the car and would confirm later that night.
Has since said unless I can provide invoices for retail/warranty work from the first owner( I’m the third owner) he’s going to pass.

I’m I the only one who thinks this is a bogus excuse?

I have full service history which I can show him

Having recently sold my other (none Audi) car, the excuses prospective buyers come out with are unbelievable. Rather than just saying they're not interested or have decided against it, they come out with comments like 'I'll have to discuss it with my wife', 'It's more than I wanted to pay' or 'The insurance is too much'. All crap.
If the service history is all Audi, then the printouts and invoices (as there isn't a service book for this era of Audis) should suffice. What more does he expect?
As you say, an excuse.
Be patient - if the car is in good order and priced right, it will sell. There's always a buyer out there, I've found over the years.
After all, it is in the best and fastest colour...

Tyre kickers are so frustrating. Me, I do my research and the car I go and see is generally the one i buy assuming it is as described.

It can be frustrating as a buyer if the service, MOT or warranty history - particularly indi or MOT advisories - 'suggest' a fault or remedy work is needed during the life of the vehicle.
From a previous purchase I made (Merc, not Audi), an independent specialist document revealed a suspected issue with suspension from 3 months before I was enquiring about the car, but there was no proof anything had been done about it.
As it turned out, the selling dealer had missed this and the subsequent knackered rear shock absorber on their first inspection. I only agreed to purchase the car once this had been replaced. It is possibly the previous owner choosing to pass the car on in the knowledge there was a possible fault and the dealer he PX'd it into carried the can.

If your car has had warranty work or a fault rectified by an independent service provider - and I am not suggesting it has - that info should be with the car as a paper trail. It is unlikley to show up on service history.

Hope you manage to sell the car to a genuine buyer soon.

No sure Audi are obligated to pass on invoices for warranty work anyway?

Works both ways, anyone buying anything from me will know exactly what they are coming to see, all documentation will be in order and correctly filed, car or bike (more often bike) will be as described and any flaws will be pointed out on the advert..

I always think everyone is like me, despite me asking all the relevant questions I still turn up and am handed piles of pieces of paper which I'm supposed to sort out what was done, when was it done and who done it, then try to establish what is correct and what is not, meanwhile all I really want to do is look and take a ride or drive.

Paperwork moreso invoices are crucial, more than a few guys I know me being one of them that a stamped book without the corresponding receipts is worthless, Audi excluded in the main as we don't get a feckin book !

Last guy I bought from "Volvo XC60" just a few months ago was a bit of a wido, some pish about him never using the handbrake and leaving it in P.. OK fair comment, within 1 minute of leaving his place the handbrake service light came on, so far I've had to replace one rear caliper and a set of pads, the light and functionality is now intermittent, he ignored my text messages.. grrrr .

I don't mind a bit of negotiating, but for someone to knock money off something I'm selling there has to be a reason for it and vice versa.. meant to add that bit in ..
