Oil and Filter Change

Post by stuartbarriskell » Sat Nov 12, 2022 4:34 pm

Further to my O and F purchase, got my local Kwik Fit to stick car up on ramp as they were quiet for a bit just in the hope of a quick change, me kinda underestimating there's a whole pile of fixings to remove just to access the bottom end.

Didn't want to press the fellah on, but I called time on it as a couple of customers had driven in and the ramp was needed, so just buttoned up the Torx/Hex screws that he had whipped off, there looked like a fair few more to come off to remove the belly pan entirely.

Does anyone know if there is a quicker/easier route to access the sump plug, and I think looking at some of the fixings I might replace them, does anyone have a schematic or equivalent of the belly pan/fixings so I can figure out what I need to pick up. I'll browse about see whats what, just wondered if anyones got a quick answer on this.

Thanks in advance guys.

These looky likey.. but sure there's others of a different length..

No quick way to the sump which I could see (why they didn't design a flap on the tray I don't know). I did the same as you - bought some of those screws and clips off ebay to swap when the tray was off. Might have just been a crap supplier but the screws were pish - wouldn't tighten properly. the clips were fine. ended up getting a pile of actual OEM screws from the local VW dealer and they were pretty cheap and worked much better.

That's exactly what I said earlier, why no access hatch or flap, that coupled with the
fastener issue and the faffing about is designed to steer the customer into a dealer.

Agree, a lot of aftermarket fixings are total pish, I'm not averse to buying from Aliexpress and use the site frequently but never for critical components, actually bought Brake Rotor Calipers last night.

Any joy with figuring out where your taking your car into?

Strike that last bit I see you replied..

I usually use this site to check part numbers and fixings are usually relatively cheap compared to what you’ll find on eBay etc:

That's brilliant mate !...thanks very much for that link Image

I usually save the page to my desktop and stick it in my car/bike folder.. makes it dead easy to access the homepage or whatever page you save..

Sometimes switching to desktop makes it easier to "see" the part numbers. ImageImageImage

I'm just surprised that you took your RS to Kwik Fit to do the oil change as generally they don't have the best reputation...... :|

I know the guys in there and would have overseen what they were doing. I was an area manager with them 85 to 91 and that was one of my Branches..

That's not so bad if you can beat them into shape and keep your beady eye on them!!!!
