Hmm, looks like you've got company on this one Stuart.
My car is in at the local dealer atm for a service, they've not rang me yet, but I've received an 'AudiCam' message...
It looks like the OSF shock is leaking, and 'a service manager will be in touch'. It'll be interesting to compare dealer experiences and costs!

PIA alright mate.
£1750 inc VAT is the quote, so not too different from yours, - I'm dahn sarf, so probably explains the difference.
There's an indy garage nearby, good lads and ex Audi and I'd normally get a quote from them before going ahead, but they're a small operation and I'm thinking with any DRC work it might be best to stick with the dealer.
It's a big labour bill though, I'm guessing the part is probably around £600, - did you get a breakdown on your invoice?
40k is a short life for a shock.

Edit, - aah, just seen the part/price on your invoice pic.

Just the one Stu, - the dealer hasn't suggested two at any time, so I'll go with that. It was in for a 12 month service, ie oil change and inspection, when they pointed out a leaking shock, the others look ok. I never noticed any symptoms driving the car, and the roads round here are ****! 40 odd k on the clock, which would normally suggest a defective part, but DRC seems to have it's own rules.

I'm sort of expecting the "well it's all going very good sir, but we've found a couple of other things" call, although my experience with the dealer over the last 3 years or so has been ok. Whether or not they'd fess up to cross threading a nut or shearing off a bolt I'm not sure...

Not too bad then, mind you, a just short of 2 grand Bill just before Xmas isn't ideal.

At least mine was rattling like a skeleton jerking off in a biscuit tin. The improvement made was literally night and day.

Let's hope that's it for a while.

Ha! I can't un-think the biscuit tin scenario now...

All done, no hose required, but obvs a fluid change and re-charge. The Audi dealer (Walton) was pretty good, and he included the 12 month service/oil change/inspection in the price of his quote for just shock replacement. So yeh, not great just before Christmas, but could have been worse.

I can't say I've noticed much difference in the ride, but it wasn't in skeleton/biscuit tin mode before. Maybe 'Comfort' feels a bit more Comfort, but it's hard to be objective about these things.

Freud was right, a fertile mind, helps make the world go round !..

I used to have this on my wall as a teenager along with loads of other mental nude/dope/metal posters, my old dear was pretty broad minded.Image
