Brake disc holes

Post by Rs4nutter » Sun Sep 05, 2021 4:26 pm

Afternoon all

Recently looked at discs and noticed the drilled hole are becoming blocked with dirt/dust.
Is this a normal thing?
Also went through invoices and the discs/pads all round were replaced by Audi, if this helps, only done approx 3.5k miles since fitted.
Do I need to be concerned? Or is there a way of clearing the holes?
Thanks

Time permitting, when giving the wheels a really good clean, I have taken the time to clear the holes in the rear discs using a suitable sized drill bit and just twisting it by hand to clear them. The holes only go through the outer face of the disc, as any holes on the inner face would be difficult to access (assuming the inner face does have holes, they aren't in line), so in view of that, clearing the holes on the visible face of the disc is really only cosmetic. They get clogged with brake dust / pad material pretty soon after clearing them so is it really worth the time and effort? Probably not, although they do look better clear....
I have only ever done the rears, as my fronts are ceramic, and I wouldn't dream of going anywhere near those with a drill bit, as I could see large £££ signs if it went wrong....
