Sport Exhaust Activation

Post by Scammo1 » Thu Feb 25, 2021 9:09 am

Hi all,

I have sport exhaust selected a dynamic under the individual settings in drive select.
I notice at idle there isn’t really a difference to the normal sound, however after driving as God intended (even for 20mins or so) there is a very distinct V8 burble at idle and the butterflies are clearly open.

Is this normal??

Definitely not working as it should. With mine as soon as I switch from D to S the tone difference was very noticeable.

Not 100% sure, but dynamic setting is different to sport mode. Sport mode flaps always open, dynamic mode only above certain revs.

No it defo opens on dynamic & sports as well as individual if you have it set , I have to select which mode before I set off or it stays in auto

What do you mean by sport mode? Putting the gearbox in sport? I thought that just changed the s-tronic gearbox settings only?

Will check my individual settings again as it is loud all of the time when selecting dynamic in drive select. Maybe I have it on auto

My sport mode drones a lot more than dynamic for the exhaust mode in options menu for individual setting at low revs, below 3k, because the flaps are always open. Yes gearbox or pressing the button.
That’s what i meant.
Rarely change it now as I have a de-res Miltek and it sounds best in dynamic mode in the individual settings in drive select, because you loose the drone at low revs, around 1800rpm, then the flaps open around 3k.
Hope that makes sense, reading it back it doesn’t to me.

So, switched car on and let it idle. Both flaps remained closed when I put in dynamic mode and when I put gearbox in sport. Assume this is normal as I was just idling and engine wasn’t fully warmed up?

I think what you guys said is that flaps will only open after 3k revs?

I do notice a difference when driving so they are definitely opening. Odd thing is that after a drive they seem to stay open even at idle if in sport

Flaps should open as soon as dynamic or sport is selected, even at idle. You’ll definitely notice.

Took it for a drive and noticed the change in tone. When o got home the left flap was open and right was closed so definitely some issue. Vacuum maybe?

Looks like I’ll be off to Audi 😤
Hopefully it should be covered by the warranty. 🤞🏻

Sticking butterfly valves, fairly common
You can try and lube them up but my guess is within a couple of weeks it will be stuck again, sorry

Got to be either vacuum hoses, the accumulator valves on the exhaust or the salt on the roads. Weirdly mine seems louder with the gearbox in sport, than dynamic, for whatever reason.

Could it be sport opens the flaps all the time while dynamic only open them once over 3,200rpm for the first time. At idle in dynamic selecting sport definitely increases the exhaust volume! :!:

Taking it to Audi next Monday.
If it’s the accumulator valve can that be fixed/replaced or will it need new rear silencer?

Most likely a rear box in my opinion but I understand it is possible to replace the butterfly valve/shaft if they use a good engineering company... but that’s probably unlikely.
You can test it yourself by using a hand vacuum pump or even a big syringe to check the actuator is working and see if the valve gets stuck.
