Have done about 30miles of proper driving and got 17mpg for the trip- only 2mpg worse so can conclude that these cars really are meant to be driven as God intended!!

FWIW I recently made a 800 mile Autobahn journey, most of it at speeds of 3 figures, and averaged 24.5 mpg. Pretty impressive I thought, I was expecting less.

Thread resurrection warning!

In my first 200 miles of driving - I'm averaging 25mpg .... About the same as my 911! Not bad methinks!

On the long road trips we have done I find that there isn't much difference in MPG between 90-120. Over that it can get a little thirsty.

A 300 mile Dash from Valencia to the French boarder in just under 3 hours (including a 15min toilet stop for the 2 year old) we did 23mpg so I am sure ave speed calcs are not difficult :bigblink: .

If anyone is going that way the A-23 and E7 north of Zaragoza was devoid of traffic, speed camera's and on the day we drove it police.

Also beware not many fuel stops so don't go below 1/4 tank

Thanks - it's great. I think the novelty is going to take some time to wear off.... :kissmyrings:

So as I currently have a B9 on loan - I thought I would compare the same journey on the trip computer to visit my parents in deepest Buckinghamshire. A perfect mix of minor roads, B roads, A roads and Motorway!
My B8 Time - 41 mins. Av. Speed - 46mph. Av. MPG - 24.8
B9 Loaner - Time 42 mins. Av. Speed - 46mph. Av. MPG - 26.9

So by downsizing the engine to a 2.9 Twin Turbo V6, changing the 7 speed DSG to a ZF 8 speeder and upsizing the car - the "value" of progress is only just over 2mpg. Wow! OK - so I know the emissions are lower too, but I was expecting a MUCH bigger difference. Go V8 B8!

How many miles on the loaner Mark?
My B9 improved a lot after some miles under its belt.
Not that I care though πŸ˜‰

Actually I'm not sure. I could have easily bought a B9 - but I sought out a B8 for it's V8 as I've never had a V8 before.
I love the tech and the ride quality of the B9 - but I love the noise and the DSG gearbox of the B8! :kissmyrings:

What I'll probably do is have the B8 for a couple of years and have a B9 or the new M3 as my next car after that ....

New M3 will be offered as an estate and 4wd this time round, so all of a sudden it is a much closer competitor to the rs4. Will be interesting to see what people go for!

I've had M3's and M4's in the past - so my loyalty is not purely to Audi - but I'm betting the Audi will be a lot more comfortable (while still covering ground safely and at speed)! A friend has also suggested I have a look at the Alpina B3 ....

That I'm really missing my B8 - while I have a B9 sat in the drive probably says it all ....
