New Owner - 95 or 97/99ron?

Post by Beejayhay » Fri Feb 07, 2020 4:32 pm

All things being equal pick up my first RS4 next week.

What’s the advice/thinking around Fuel for a standard car. Is 95 ok? Does it need to be 97/99? Can it be 97/99 every so often?

Cheers

Run it on 99 it's worth the extra Imo, smoother running, better wear and a few more horses.

Most of the newer cars state minimum of 98 RON on the inside of the filler cap. Yes, it will run fine on 95, but you will not get the manufacturers claimed power and the mpg and throttle response will be worse too.

I too have never used 95 in mine. I always used to put Shell VPower in, but the price of it just kept going through the roof, so I have switched to Tesco 99 Momentum. Haven't noticed any difference in performance from the V Power, but it's a lot cheaper to buy. Shell also did away with their Drivers Club points, whilst Tesco have their Clubcard. I know it's only a few pounds off a tankful when a voucher pops through your letterbox, but the fuel bills are less overall.
Not heard any bad reports about Tesco Momentum 99 either.

I've pretty much given up on Shell Vpower due to the price differential, both my cars live on a Tesco Momentum 99 diet these days for better performance and improved fuel economy.
Even SWMBO has learned to buy it by default when she fills up.

That said, with a few highly-tuned exceptions, any modern car will come to no harm on 95RON if you can't get 99.
