Hey All,

So i've bee facing this only problem with my 2014 low mileage RS4, where every month or so, i'd be driving and all of sudden when i reach a stop, rpm starts to go up and down, then all the way down and shuts off. Car also shakes a bit at this stage before shutting off.

I have already changed fuel pump and i believe a fuel regulator sensor.

Not sure what else to do, and the problem is that no faults/warning have shown on dash until yesterday where engine check light came on.

Will take to mechanic, but need some feedback if anyone has faced the same issue.

I also had this problem last winter; certainly worrying when the car ground to a halt at a junction. Thankfully after 10secs or so, I was able to refire it up. It was diagnosed to a fuel pressure sensor failure. The fault should be logged on the ECU, so your AD will know where to look.

Around 4.5hrs labour to fix but the part is cheap-ish. Budget for north of £500.

If mine recurs, my AD said they would look to fix it at no cost.

Fuel pressure sensor is different than fuel regulator sensor? Hehehe not sure what i replaced anymore, some sensor that has to do with the fuel.

Not sure what else to check?!

I have rpm starts to go up and down (1200-1800 rpm) on the first startup, the second startup is normal. But does not have any fault be logged on the ECU. I will change the fuel pumps and pressure sensor, but my technician suggests change ignition coil and flat contact housing too.

P.S. the problem has the car wash been overdoing cleaning the engine room then rpm starts to go up and down.

I waiting for the part arrival now, I hope anything to be okay.

No updates! In fact Rs4 was in for service and thermostat fault that showed up. No fault was registered for the shut off issue. I did not mention it to service guy since no faults appeared.

After service was done, car shuts off again. Without any fault signs! RPM going up and down until it shut off, had to restart three times until car worked again!

I hate how this issue is not registering!

Might have to leave it at dealership and i am sure, with my luck, they will keep it for a week and it will never shut off! Hehehee.

My 2014 RS4's been doing this for about 18 months now, shuts down after the rev counter bounces up and down while idling. This happens every now and again (maybe once every 8-10 drives?) and the car's generally ok once it's restarted. No faults registered so haven't taken any remedial action but would be very interested if anyone has a confirmed fix...
