B9 rs4 or c8 rs6 performance?

Post by sidzz » Fri Jun 07, 2019 8:58 pm

So after 5 years on b8 rs4 ownership it'll soon be time to change as mileage is getting too high.
If the new rs4 was a v8 i would not be posting here for advice, but not sure whether to lose 2 cylinders with a b9 rs4 or lose dual clutch and go with the rs6 performance?
Any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Given B9 is sloshomatic you’d be loosing dual clutch there too.

Assume you mean C7....

B8 RS4 move to C7 RS6 performance. The only real negative about moving away from the NA V8 is the way it revs and sounds with it. 8250 rpm red line was a real joy to exploit. Having moved to the RS6 performance I don't go anywhere near the red line as if I do I'm going that quick I'm in license losing territory. However, in every other way the RS6 is a vastly superior car to the RS4. Size can be an issue for parking but the biggest difference for me is that the RS6 has better steering feel and handles better. Grab one now whilst there are still a few low mileage, well spec'd examples around!
RS6 PE - Current
RS4 (B8.5) 2015 - Sold
A4 3.0 TDI Quattro BE Avant - Gone
Focus ST170 - Garaged

Ive moved from the B8 to the B9
And i would say its a much better package than the B8
The B9 faster, sharper better tech point to point it will out handle the RS6 as for the gearbox it find it hard to notice the difference from the B8
on the RS6+ for me the size is too big for me but you can't fault the power of the 6
Depends on the roads around you i have mostly B roads so the RS4 was my choice
There are some high spec'ed B9 RS4's out there
2018 B9 RS4 Navarra Blue
2013 B8 RS4 Sepang Blue
2007 B7 RS4 Avant Sprint Blue
2001 B5 RS4 Nogaro Blue
1998 B5 S4 Avant Kingfisher Blue
1993 B4 S2 Avant laser Red

The RS4 is much more exclusive if that thing is important to you. To me it just means less choice of second hand cars.

I'm in this same position, trying to decide between the two. Another factor in my decision making will be which one will have the better residual value after 4 years.......Any takers??

Given the general trend in the performance car market is negative and the pressures of the electric revolution it'd be a brave man who claimed that residuals will hold strong.

That said, RS6 will already have shed a good chunk, so that's slightly less likely to plummet.

I would question comment above re RS6 v B9 RS4 handling. Having done 35k in one and 15k in the other, the 4 is by far the better handling car on A and B roads. 6 wins on the motorway though 😉
