Max 6000 rpm warning
Max 6000 rpm warning
Hi all hope someone can help
Drove to Wales from SE London today for a week's holiday and a few Miles in I got a warning "Max Engine Revs 6000rpm" my heart sank when I noticed the temp gauge was starting to creep up then before I could stop the temp went back down to 90 and the warning went away.
I was on the M25 at the time so keeping constant speed, this happened again 3 times over the motorway journey but only for a few minutes.
I hit Wales A roads and hit the caravan crew so had a few overtaking manoeuvres at full chat and up and only time the temp rose when I had to follow a motor home over a mountain.
One thing I have noticed is the fans have stayed on longer than usual the last few days all after a service by Audi last week!
Bit of research says a few things like Coolant pump!
Anyone have any ideas?
I am 30 mins from the Evo triangle so wanted to head up there this week and have Le Mans in 3 weeks so could do without a major issue.
Is the car safe to drive?
So annoyed I have Vagcom but left it at home
Nearest Audi dealer is over an hour away anyone in North Wales know a good indie near Dolgellau?
Thanks in advance

If the heating blows hot and then cold then its the water pump
Could be the thermostat, not sure about the rs but the s was prone to getting stuck resulting in overheating

Re: Max 6000 rpm warning
No longer have my B8 RS4 but I recall having the coil packs changed out under warranty and a cam shaft sensor valve. One of those caused me similar engine rev limitations. I traded the RS on as had a few issues that spoilt ownership after running a number of audis over the years. Didn't live up to my expectations which was a pity.
Re: Max 6000 rpm warning
Turned out to be a buggered thermostat!
It only happened when at a cruise 50-70mph
2 hours up and around the Evo triangle at above 5000rpm (barring the bloody ave speed section) and the temp never went over 90!

Hi G30001
I’m having the same issues with my own B8 right now.
My preferred indi garage is over 300miles away from where I am.
Can I ask where you had yours done, and what the cost was for the repair, and did they sort it first time and is it performing as it should do!!
Thanks

Give Dean at 4 rings in Dartford a call.
Ex Master Tech went out on his own, so Audi training with indie levels of care!

Re: Max 6000 rpm warning
Hi, I've got a similar issue, 'Cooling malfunction' engine temp runs low (I think the thermostat might be stuck open, and also the 600rpm limit reached issue.
Engine started misfiring and juddering and then the problem went away. Did anyone find the solution please? I dont understand why a coolant related problem would be anything to do with th 6000 rpm limit problem unless it's wiring related and a temp sensor and cam sensor are on the same circuit. Any guidance is appreciated please
