Service Time

Post by Sammyb349 » Fri Feb 15, 2019 8:44 pm

So car is going in for it’s service on Monday. 4th birthday present I suppose... old girl has 22k miles on the clock

Have asked for them to address the following - should I ask about anything else?:

(1) gearbox oil
(2) A/C recharge
(3) dust & pollen filter
(4) panoramic roof service
(4) brake discs and pads
(5) brake fluid

They’ve also suggested I get the air filters replaced, but i’ve Passed as I think I might go aftermarket... any suggestions, or should I stick to OEM?

Lastly, I’d bought some Goodrich brake lines in anticipation of the brakes needing an overhaul but Audi of course won’t fit non-OEM parts.

What should I do - is it better to get discs and pads from somewhere else and get an Indy to fit them with the hoses? If yes, any recommendation in north Surrey?

I'm leaning towards getting Audi to do the service work (and getting stamps in the electronic book as it were) and using an indy for non-service items

Audi prices are getting a bit crazy. I've done the service plan from them that covers two services for £595; still not that cheap but cheaper than the prices they quote.

How much are they quoting you for this work? £3365 for the work below

Service £675
Gearbox £225
Brake fluid £85
Pads and discs £1275 + £975
Sunroof £130

Thanks - Not got a quote yet off them. They will revert tomorrow once they’ve seen the car. The front pads will need doing for certain. I think discs might be okay.
If it’s just the pads then there is no point paying their prices.

Wanted to change my discs - but I reckon they have 2 years left in them. Car has done 25k miles. Pads are circa £160. Get the service package if you can though - 2 services for less than what they'll charge you for one

So....

Front discs and pads need doing as an advisory under the MOT. Wear sensor just about breaking through on the pads. Discs alegedly 75% worn although they didn’t give me the measurements.

Price... £1,365.

What are people’s thoughts?

Need to measure disc thickness. 34mm max to 32.4mm min

Discs can be bought for £700. My Indy has just quoted £135 for pads fitted. Parts seem cheap. He thought so too

Looks like the £1,062 they quoted you for discs and pads was pre-VAT. That's actually a cost of £1,274.

Cheeky...

Weird replying to my own post, but.....

Had a Porsche Indy change front pads and front suspension parts. Cost of pads was £81 plus VAT. Wow. All in £560 including wheel alignment. Audi wanted £800 alone for the suspension work and £1300 for pads and discs

As the friendly Indy said, at that price I can change pads and discs when the discs eventually need to be done
