Extended Warranty - TD1

Post by dumdum » Mon Feb 11, 2019 3:17 pm

Hi, new poster and not the best of starts!
So I bought my car from outside of the dealer network about a year ago and extended the factory warranty.
The car had aftermarket exhaust and suspension fitted, but nothing else as far as I was aware.
Car was recently serviced at Audi and they investigated an EPC warning light which comes on when the car is cold, explanation that new oil should fix it.
Warning light still coming when the car is cold, so booked in for warranty work last week.
Dealer rings me and tells me the car has been previously remapped and they wont honour the warranty work.
Turns out this was flagged up at the last service some 2 years ago.

So my point is, as the car has always been in the dealer network, and the TD1 has been known, I feel like I've been miss sold a warranty on the basis that the did not have to go in for a pre purchase inspection, the car was flagged up at the previous service (out of my ownership) as being mapped, but this was only then brought to light when it comes to getting the car sorted. Im some 1200 out of pocket for the warranty and will have to foot the bill for the repair.

Its not the sensors, latest estimate is full engine out job for the soleniods (variators) to be changed on bank 2.
Turning into an expensive nightmare.

Would be interested in other peoples experience and thoughts.

You'll absolutely have to fight that with the dealers that have worked on the car throughout its history. Especially the dealership it was originally flagged up at. You can obtain the full service invoices and itemised work carried out through the dealer. They may need to phone the actual dealerships the work was carried out at and, they will have to send a fax or copy etc.

It sounds like left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing. But you've got a good case there IMO.

This is difficult. Bottom line is that really all they can do is put you back in the position you were and refund the warranty. However.....

If the flag was known about then unless you were misled on the original purchase I can’t see there’s any recourse against the dealer. If you knew about the flag when you purchased the warranty then I’d say you’ve probably misrepresented your end and they wouldn’t be obliged to refund

The extended warranty is an insurance product, the terms of which are your car is not modified, has to be serviced at the dealer as per schedule etc etc, else invalid.

Check the terms on cancellation, hopefully you can get a prorata refund at least.

You should be refunded your warranty, you have a good position for that. Request all invoicing held for the car, note any warranty work completed (if any) and the dates, if these dates are post TD1 flag, Audi have a precedent for completing warranty work on a TD1 flagged car. That will be a mess for them and may work in your favour. Halt all work until the above is done, paying for anything now will make it difficult to recoup.
No matter where you go, there you are.

I got the warranty refunded.

On the issue, the dealer told me a load of <beep> about the sensors being at fault on the intake/exhaust.
Had it to specialist today, either stretched timing chain or variocam actuator.
Engine out job and ££££££.

Car all sorted.

Chains were fine, turns out it was the intake cam adjuster unit.
Still required engine out job, but all now sweet and commanded value is now being fed back as correct.

Did the warranty refund cover the cost of the repair

Didn't think there was much point mapping these cars as no forced induction and Audi have tuned it pretty well in the first place

Total repair was £1850.
The timing was way out on bank 2 intake, have got the trend printouts showing difference before repair.
I’ll never go near the dealers again, awful thieving pricks.
