Went to get re-balance and alignment check. Alignment spot on as only done a month ago.

Slight buckle in front drivers side wheel. They've balanced it out a bit as somehow, the weights on both fronts have actually disappeared. They done nothing to the fronts last time I was in. Pretty odd.

Still some vibration in pedal. But it's minimal. Might just go to Audi and try blag a clean and re-grease. But, that's another possible issue eliminated

Free weights too. They're pretty sound down at my local Kwik fit. Just down to the earth.

Yup.

Brake vibration still there under heavier braking and once discs/pads are hot.

Gonna book into Audi. Not had much luck with local ones in recent years but been advised of one that might be decent. At least they can tell me what the issue is and then I'll see if a specialist can beat it. Bugger. Thought I was onto a winner when I cleaned them.

Not sure where you are in the country but this guy is well worth talking to.

What he doesn't know about brakes isn't worth knowing.

I'd say Audi will just try and flog you new discs and pads but maybe worth a try.

Hope you get it sorted.

Many thanks for this.

That's a over 3hrs away from me though. Skimming is in back of my mind in case the fronts are are warped. I just don't see how they could be. Take it Audi won't even entertain the idea of skimming?

I'm prepared for obvious from Audi unfortunately haha. Maybe they'll surprise me and tell me what's actually wrong Image

Skimmydiscs.co.uk brought up a decent exotic garage I know quite locally. Which surprised me. But thinking how many new and used super/Hyper cars they sell, this pro-tec method would save them thousands.

Just asking for a quote but does anybody have a ball park figure they can share for rears and fronts to be skimmed on this car.

Many thanks for everyone's input.

The place I mentioned above charged me £120 for the fronts and £80 for the rears back in 2015.

Was that for the pair?

Spot on. That's a good starting point to know if 'I'm' being skimmed! Haha.

Cheers.

Brake Judder

Post by Thundercliffe81 » Fri Jan 11, 2019 5:14 pm

Just a quick one actually...

My mates are adamant I can get this sorted under Approved 12 month Warranty. I couldn't keep a straight face whilst typing that but so I can assure them, this would be an absolute no no right?

The pro tec website says Mis-aligned hubs/wheels can cause uneven brake ware too. makes sense. I wonder, did my alignment adjustment bring this on?

Just been reading through a B7 thread about this place. Nothing but too reviews and that Marcus seems like a top bloke. I'd defo go if I was down south.

I'm popping into a place where my detailed is best mates with the head tech. Hopefully get some good feedback for anyone up North needing this ImageImage

Ok.

So, the saga continues. Went to Redline and the good chaps there said they don't skim these brakes anymore.

Reason being, because they drilled on both sides, when they skim one side, it's leaving an impression (or something like it) on the opposite side. This 'impression' creates a drone-like sound and effectively creates just another issue.

Now, I've not read anyone on here, and with the B7 too, having this issue. So, I have another place that might do it for me. But Redline say they just replace the discs and pads on this car now. They did say it was a weird problem but explained it pretty well.

They also said it sounds like the rears as I'm getting vibration through pedal and wheel.

Looks like I'm booking into Audi. They said I should go back to Newcastle where I got it but that's a very long way away for a maybe. Think I'll book into one closer and attempt to get a truth diagnosis out of Audi. Yeah right...

This is becoming tedious but I did say when I got the car that I wanted to learn more about how things worked and not get fleeced.

Cheers guys.

If you are making a warranty claim you can go to any Audi dealer.
To get your front disks skimmed they can be easily removed. An engineering company can put them on a flat bed and hone them. I've had this done before, it's only worth it if your discs have adequate life left in them.
RS4 B7, Mugello Blue, K&W V3 & HR ARBs, set up by Centre Gravity, Milltek Valved Non Res & cat bypass pipes, BMC air filter, braided hoses, DOT 5.1, Terraclean, MRC Full Carbon Clean, MRC remap 448PS 477NM, 20" S7 alloys with 4mm spacers & Hawke spigots 66.6 > 57.1, AP Racing front discs. Sold Sept 2019. Now rocking an F80 M3

The fronts have tonnes left.

I'm just trying to deliberate going through warranty or not. The attitude I've had at local dealers is, "you never bought the car here, that's not covered under warranty". And was for replacing a gearbox undertray that ripped off while I was driving.

I've only got my warranty certificate. No actual policy of what's covered on the RS4. Is there a digital version ?

Cheers.

Point 6.

I can't be bothered with the hassle.
