Engine Carbon Clean
Engine Carbon Clean
Advice please,
Went up to MRC last weekend for an Dyno run health check, on the whole Doug get me a clean bill of hell (my C5 gave me nightmares post it’s health check )
Power was down to 407hp..
It’s had a map elsewhere from previous owner & is sporting a beautiful jcweldfab full system
Doug suggested a carbon clean at approx £900, been looking at mobile companies that can do a 40 min hydrogen carbon clean for under £100...
Has anyone tried one, what’s the difference that has a £800 delta...
Confused & want to ensure if a carbon cleans is a good step that it choose wisely...

Hi.
What mileage are you at just now? Wondering when best time to do it might be. Health check would be best bet obviously but I'm based up north so MRC is a bit far to go. Might try Unit20.
I'm at 45k miles. Just bought it at 44k.

Don’t do that snake oil crap, do it the right way and do a full clean (intake, ports and valves cleaned and finished and also get your injectors serviced) combined with a stage 2 map you’ll drive out of there with a HUGE smile on your face.

Yeah absolutely. You can't beat hands on agitation or shell blasting. No short cuts.RS4LAD wrote:Don’t do that snake oil crap, do it the right way and do a full clean (intake, ports and valves cleaned and finished and also get your injectors serviced) combined with a stage 2 map you’ll drive out of there with a HUGE smile on your face.
Think I need to hit the dyno but going to enjoy just having the car for a little while.

If it has never been done in its lifetime you’ll have lost a fair few horses by now. They start coking up again within a few thousand miles. B8’s are not as bad as b7’s though, you have to actually thrash them to keep the buildup down. Oh and good quality fuel always helps vpower or Tesco99. ‘A redline a day keeps the carbon away’Thundercliffe81 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 28, 2018 12:12 amYeah absolutely. Actually, without knowing about this Italian Tuning method until today, I do actually take it up to the redline and just have a blast on each journey. Even if just for 5 mins. Something just told me it was a good idea so it could breathe haha.RS4LAD wrote:If it has never been done in its lifetime you’ll have lost a fair few horses by now. Fuel not an issue. Always V power or 99. But you're right, it's inevitable! And I will get it done. Just need the bank account to settle down again after buying this thing

Yeah I always wanted to hear that system, as Ross took it back many times to JCWF in the development phase to get it just right. In fact, I'm sure his old car is currently for sale, no mention of an exhaust in the advert though.

Yeah I've heard great things about these guys. Heard a C6 RS6 one that sounded perfect. I'm considering the MTM for this.FaisalJ wrote:Hydrogen cleaning is a crock of <beep>. Read this...

Thanks all, MRC will once again get my pennies for a carbon clean, thought the £100 clean was too good toThundercliffe81 wrote:Yeah I've heard great things about these guys.
