Access without the keys

Had a pretty nasty situation last night. My wife was car jacked at knife point with my son in the car. All okay thankfully.

It being my wife, the spare keys were in her bag as well at the time and were in the car. The car didn’t get far but they locked it and ran off with the keys.

The car is now in the police impound for forensics and they want to break the window to access it.

I’m going to call Audi to see what the options are - can they access the car and get new keys done whilst it is in the impound? I have all the ownership docs etc so no problem from that angle.

Honestly you hear about those stories, but it’s not grand theft auto. What’s the world coming to.

Jesus, where was this? Glad nobody got hurt.

I can't help I'm afraid, just here to offer condolences. It's only metal at the end of the day.

(Why your wife is carrying the spare key around is a different matter mind you, women! lol)

Thanks very much - luckily all okay and don’t get me started on the spare key!!

East London it happened - last year they tried to burgle me when I had an m3, now it’s a car jacking. I think lesson learnt about having a nice car around here.

They got all the keys? Or are you saying a key is still inside?

You will be able to get a new key cut from the chassis number at the dealer, and you'll then be able to manually unlock the car if you remove the handle cover.

that'll take a bit of time though, keys are over a week usually.

They have one set, other set in the car! So need to get access and change all the keys. I thought it may take some time, whole thing is ridiculous and infuriating

Unfortunately not a great surprise, East London is a sh!tehole, but it can happen anywhere in reality.

Was the door unlocked? How did they get in if they didn't smash the window?

She was parking and just opened the door to check how close to the kerb as I am militant about how much she kerbs the alloys!

Just spoke to Audi and looks like I need to get the car to them to reprogram the keys. Let’s hooe the spares are in the car and then at least I have one set and they can reprogram. £300 for a new key and coding with 7-10 days delivery time

Don’t you have the plastic emergency key?

Nope. In the glovebox (I’m learning by error here), but at least I can drive it as apparently the police have ways to get in without damaging it.

So the thieves may have all 3 keys? And you are hoping that they’ve left 1 of the spares in the car? Oh man.

The plastic key isn’t in the glove box. The adapter to fit the dash is. The plastic key is seperate unless you fitted it in there.

If it’s not on the loop with the spare key it might still be in the handbook wallet.

That will allow you to manually open the doors.
