Hi all

New to the forum so sorry if this has been covered just wondering what to look out for when picking up my new (to me) rs4 Avant? It is a 15 plate 33k miles from an Audi dealer and pretty much has every option. They are completing the 4 year service, fitting 4 new tyres and I’m waiting for confirmation about if the discs and pads have been recently replaced.

I have read about the common problem with the drc is there any way to check this whilst viewing the car?

It will be my first time seeing the car on Saturday (except a short video presentation) and it’s a 2 hour drive from home so want to make sure I have everything covered before I leave.

Chris

Don't be too worried about the DRC - for all the incidents you hear about, there are hundreds that have been fine!

Saying that, mine failed and needed 2 shocks replacing and some pipes replacing, so make sure you have a watertight warranty!

DRC is a knock/clunk from the suspension at low speeds (20 to 25mph). It's pretty obvious if it is faulty. Also check gearbox is smooth (it should be) esp 2nd to 1st and no 'thump' (as if the car has been nudged up the back).

Exhaust should be extra noisy on startup and cold and settles down after about 10 to 15 seconds. If I recall something to do with exhaust flaps being fully open to warm up the cats. Sounds great; if only it was like this all the time.

Enjoy

Check the alloys for any kerbing and if they are V Spokes pay special attention to whether they have been refurbed. As they are diamond cut you can only cut them 2-3 times. So look for a lip where the diamond cut/grey meet.

Surprisingly my Audi dealer had put tyre gel over some damage and I had a big argument with them when collecting the car as there was no cut left in the alloy - so had to argue to get a new alloy.
