Hi guys, so days 2 of RS4 ownership - leaking tyre. I drove 400 miles home without a problem, so I doubt I’ll be able to get anything from the dealer.

It’s looking like it won’t be repairable. So....

- am I correct in assuming I’ll need to replace both rear tyres?

- I have Pirelli’s all round at the moment. My experience of p-zeros so far is that they don’t last very long, and at £230+ per tyre, I’d rather get it right now. What are you guys running?

- is it ok to run say Michelin’s at the back and p-zeros on the front untill they’re ready to change aswell?

I’d just stick 4 new Michelin’s on it and just keep the zeros for temp spares for when you get a puncture in the future.

What size wheels do you have on it? PS4S (the dogs...) is only available up to 20", if you have 21s then PSS is the one to go for, not "standard" PS4.

PS4S = Pilot Sport 4S (S for sport again or super?) and PSS = Pilot Super Sport

Had the wheel off yet to have a look? Check for previous puncture repairs, and a flat spot / crack on the inside of the wheel rim.

Don't immediately cross off going back to the dealer - I mean if it was losing 5 psi a week, they might have just pumped it up every week! I had a wheel on my 205 that would go down gradually over time. There was nothing in the tyre tread, so didn't do anything about it because I already had a fresh set of Michelins stacked in the corner to go on, and knew I was refurbing the all four wheel at the same time. I just kept an eye on it and just pumped it up every time it needed pumping up. Cost zero. Which is more profit if you are a dealer.

If not, could be anything. I had a tyre recently that was losing pressure at a similar rate to Ian_C. Got my tame mobile tyre man round and he checked it, found nothing other than a leak around the bead (probably dislodged on a pothole) so took the tyre off, refitted it and all was fine.

This. Had to do this on two of my winter wheels when I went to put them on in November - both flat as a pancake after being stored in the out house all summer.

I don’t know the problem yet because the idiots didn’t put the locking wheel but back in the car!

I’ve jacked that corner and had a look, there didn’t seem to be a puncture on the road part off the tyre. Air seems to be coming from a part of the rim.

I’m solely basing basing my “not blaming the dealer” on the fact I drove 6 hours back and it seemed fine. This morning it was flat. I put some air in it, and it wouldn’t hold for more than 10 mins. So I think the dealer will probably say it was fine when I left and I must have damaged it. We’ll see when I get it off. Not a clue when that’ll be.

Ahh okay, that sounds like a puncture.

A missing locking wheel nut key is a pain in the arse.

Stupid question - and I hope this doesn't come across as patronising - have you found the hidden compartment at the very back of the boot floor in the B8, above the fuel tank? As you look at the boot floor, the front two thirds is the spare wheel well, and the rear third flips up.

Another non-patronising question for OP. Have you looked everywhere in the car. Ie the ash tray, glovebox even in the door pockets. Sometimes the tyre people leave the locking nut in some strange places.

Could be that the tyre bead got damaged when the tyres were removed for refurbishing the wheels?

To be honest, it did catch me out until a mate told me
