Looking at buying an RS4 next week, first fast audi, need some help from you guys......

Post by Bendelaurence » Tue Apr 03, 2018 8:11 pm

Hi,

First post on this site so please excuse the noob questions.

1.Ive got my eye on an RS4 - 2014 on a 63 plate. The general consensus on here seems to be that the 'MY14' variation is the one to have. How do I tell if this car is a MY14? Also, is the a model history page somewhere that shows what was added/upgraded and when?

2. The car has done 23,000 miles. I have read all the terror threads about DRC failure. How often can I expect a big bill because of this? Ive had a quote from Audi Warrenty of about £1200 per year for an all component Warrenty. They said DRC is covered providing the milage isn't ridiculous, at which point some parts become wear and tear items. Is it worth it? The dealership (Porsche) is selling it with a years Warrenty, I've asked for details on what that covers. Ive also read about gearbox problems.

Any advise on how much trouble I can really expect would be much appreciated. I need to put things into perspective.

3. I'm coming from a Mercedes A45 AMG. To be honest, I haven't even test driven an RS4. Ive choose it because it fits my requirements, which are:
  • 0-60 similarish to my A45
  • 4WD
  • Bigger than A45, smaller than the Audi A6 I had before that
  • I like Audis build quality
Ive read comments about 'the RS4 is in a different league to a Golf R' and the Golf R is fairly similar to an A45.

So.... am I likely to see it as an upgrade?

Dive in guys, im looking forward to joining the club. I just want a better idea of what I have in store for myself.

Thanks, Ben.

I have just brought a RS4 B8 2015 16000 miles and I love it to bits I some times sit in the car and listen to some music when it is in my garage.
Go and get a good one and you won`t regret it.

The FAQ section is your friend

My car had a DRC failure at less mileage - car has only done 19k miles to date. Audi extended warranty can be had for less from Audi if you are willing to take an excess. Again there is good thread you should read

I've not driven an AMG A45 so can't comment on the difference

Well this one does seem to have all the MY14 stuff on it. Is the a way to tell from chassis number or vin number etc?

I think the warranty is high because im guessing the original warranty ran out early 2017. Which lead to the next question - Should I just get the audi Warrenty now? Because its likely to go up even more next year once my dealer Warrenty runs out.... But yes it definitely sounds like I need one if DRC/Gearboxes are going sub 20k!

Did you go straight in to extended Warrenty when your 3 year Warrenty ran out? Or was there a gap?

Warranty well worth it - doesn’t take much to get your money back

Mine was a generally good car but it still had things done to it under warranty!

I’ve not driven an A45 but been passenger in one - I’m sure you will enjoy the upgrade !

Yes I did. Had a B8 S4 before the RS and it had a DSG failure at 40k miles and my B6 S4 had big gearbox problems too so decided on warranty. Of course nothing will go wrong now.......

Yh, I'm pretty sure my Warrenty price is inflated because of the gap between manufactures Warrenty, and applying for extended. I'll call them and confirm this if I end up with the car, then report back. Which will hopefully be soon. God I hate waiting for finance checks!

Ive had a good read of Warrenty direct and motoreasys policies. They both smell like 'massive scam' to me.

So I moved from an A45 AMG to a 2015, RS04 last summer and have certainly not regretted it. Saying that, the A45 was my 1st Merc having run a C5 RS6 for 7 years before that and I guess I'm still biased towards Audis and certainly the build quality is superior - haven't got time to discuss the interior rattles and the paint quality on the A45!

Had to replace the DRC with Bilsteins within the 1st year of RS6 ownership. I then had a year's Warranty Wise cover after the Coilovers but had issues with WW when one of my ICs needed replacing so adopted the "slush" fund approach after that.

The warranty on my RS4 expires in 2 weeks and will probably readopt the "slush" fund although it's just had a Carbon clean and Stage 1 at MRC and no worrying issues reported.

Good luck in whatever you decide.
