Jolts out of 1st in manual mode?

Post by steve099 » Mon Nov 13, 2017 11:20 am

Do any of you know why my rs4 has a jolts when changing from first to second in manual mode? It does not do it when it auto changes, only seems to do it in manual and over 4k rpm....????

Car is still under warranty so if I need to get them to fix it , I want to identify the issue early while still covered.

All feedback welcome

Jolts out of 1st in manual mode?

Does it change between hot and cold? There are 3 things Audi can do.
Software update
Oil sample
Change box!

They seem to have no intent on stripping these and investigating further, if you read some testimonials on dsg/s-Tronic repairers sites, often the fix is simple rather that writing the box off.

thanks for the reply Noddy, it was doing it hot over the weekend as I had been driving it for quite a while. What does it mean if it jolts when hot?

If it jolts during operating temp, I would guess something is not 100%. The fact it is fine in auto mode suggests just a software setting or clutch reset.
The gearbox can be a little slow to respond/react when cold due to oil viscosity etc.

changes fine when cold, only does it hot, confirmed today.

what is involved in doing a clutch reset?

ps: I think the GB has been updated along with the ECU, could this be related and is there any easy way to confirm if its been upgraded tune wise at the firmware level?

tonight i went for a decent drive into town with the lil lady to take her to dinner, 20 mins there and 20 back...i could not get it to do it again once near home so maybe it was still not up to operating temp this morning even though oil temp was at 90c on the dash.

Is there another electronic oil temp reading i can check hidden in the MMI options?

Water temp or oil temp? Oil temp only displays on the lap timer setting. Mine usually around 100

I've had a similar issue on mine, except the gearbox 'clunks' from 2-1. I've had the car in with Audi recently and typically it didn't do it on the drive but there is a TPI out for this with a gearbox software update.

However, I was also complaining of the car generally feeling a little bit hesitant on the throttle and a clunk between 4th & 5th when driving hard in manual. They did a glycol test on the gearbox oil and discovered there was heavy contamination. I had the gearbox oil replaced at 19K in the summer because of the way the car felt and trying to rectify the issue. Turns out that there is an ATF coolant leak in the gearbox and this contaminates the clutches with glycol so they need to be replaced and the whole coolant line flushed. There is a TPI out on this as well. Be worth getting them to check the gearbox oil if you're having issues.
