Servicing Schedules - All you need to know.

Post by Surrey Sam » Sun Oct 22, 2017 6:13 pm

Ok, now that the vast majority of these B8 RS4’s are moving out of their first owners possession and getting beyond the standard 3yr Audi Warranty. I thought I’d put together a post that sets out exactly, what the correct service schedule should be for these cars.

As worryingly, there are a lot of buyers and dealers alike whom are unaware of what the correct servicing requirements are. Since around November 2012, all Audi’s built have moved onto the Digital Service Schedule. This means that the cars basic service history and official manufacturer recalls, are all recorded by Audi on a centralised system. However, warranty work and additional items are not kept there. So if for example you’re trying to authenticate a gearbox replacement; you’ll need to contact the dealership who carried out the work, and get them to check their own system for confirmation of the work carried out.

Independent Market Partners (Independent Garages/Specialists) need to register via Audis erWin system to become an approved business partner. When done so, they can update the cars digital service history record with the work they’ve carried out on the vehicle.

So, onto the cars service requirements.

Audi Engine Service Schedules: Cars can be run on either type.
  • Fixed Service Schedule – Every 12months or 9000 miles, whichever comes first. This schedule alternates between #1 Oil Service and #2 Inspection Service with Oil Change.
  • Flexible Service Schedule – Every 2 years or 19,000 miles, whichever comes first. This schedule operates only one type of service called an Inspection Service with Oil Change (flexible), which is basically an Inspection Service with Oil Change, but uses an Audi approved long life oil.
These schedules can be changed or swapped at each service interval by Audi if asked to, or changed via VCDS if the Independent/User has such system available. The schedule should be selected based only the cars expected type of usage.
As set out in this document below (click to enlarge).
RS4_ServiceSchedule1.jpg
Choosing Service Schedules.

Audi Additional Service Requirements:
  • Front Final Drive: renew gearbox oil – Every 20,000 miles.
  • Cabin interior Dust & Pollen filter – Every 20,000 miles or 2 years. Whichever comes first.
  • Panoramic Roof : check mechanism, clean & grease slides – Every 2 years or 40,000 miles. Whichever comes first.
  • Brake Fluid – First change at 3 years old, there after renew every 2 years.
  • Dual Clutch Gearbox S-Tronic: Replace ATF filter and ATF fluid – Every 40,000 miles.
  • Rear Final Drive : Replace final drive oil – Every 40,000 miles.
  • Rear Final Drive : Replace ATF fluid – Every 40,000 miles.
  • Engine Air Filter : Replace both filters – Every 60,000 miles.
  • Engine Spark Plugs : Replace all 8 – Every 60,000 miles or 6 years. Whichever comes first.
  • Front Brake Discs – Replace at the minimum 32.4mm thickness.
  • Rear Brake Discs – Replace at the minimum 20mm thickness.
  • Front Brake Pads – replace at 10mm (includes backing and damper plate).
  • Rear Brake Pads – replace at 7mm (includes backing and damper plate).
Audi document can be seen online in the owners area, use this link if registered and select the Additional Work tab - https://myaudi.audi.com/group/en/gb/serviceplan

Or you can view the screen print I have taken below, click it to enlarge:

Additional Service Items

Good Servicing Practices:
  • Petrol - Run on super unleaded fuel, wherever possible.
  • Windscreen/Rear wiper blades – Every 2 years or 20,000 miles. Whichever comes first.
  • Air Conditioning : Evacuate system, de-odorise, renew Refrigerant/Oil and re-pressurise – Every 3 Years.
  • Tyres – replace at 3mm depth or 6 years age. Axle and side to side difference, no larger than 2mm. Tyres should be the same type all around.
  • 4 Wheel Alignment - Everytime time tyres are replaced.
  • Keyfob Batteries – Renew every 4 years, Advanced Keyless Entry fob batteries every 2/3 years.
  • Engine Coolant : Concentrate analysed at every Audi Inspection and topped up – Drain and renew every 6 years.
  • DRC Suspension : Evacuate oil, renew and then re-pressurise system - Every 6 years
  • Car Battery – Replace every 6 years.
  • Fuel Filter – Replace every 6 years.

Hope that helps and if anyone wants to add information, then post it below and I'll update.

Cheers
Sam

Top guide mate, will be paying close attention to this when I’m in the market for a b8.

Btw is this the same or similar case for a b7?

DRC Suspension : Evacuate oil, renew and then re-pressurise system - Every 6 years

Air Conditioning : Evacuate system, de-odorise, renew Refrigerant/Oil and re-pressurise – Every 3 Years.

Very useful, what's interesting is the digital service history is useless for potential buyers, if you go online to view, or get a print out it does not detail work done, just dates a mileage.

Thank you.

Yes, I'd say that the B7 is the same. However the B7 DRC was more un-reliable and went through a few variations before the model ceased manufacturing. So most were replaced and re-pressurised earlier in their life cycle. The Air Con aspect is the same for all modern cars.

Thanks. I've not been in that position but is this, the sort of thing you're provided with?

Sam mine is bone dry but Iv looked through the history file and it’s been replaced under warranty so I’m guessing it’s had a new variation?

Would it be worth getting them drained out and re pressurised or shall I just let them die out and change to coil overs later?

I've just PXed my B7 RS4 for an 8J TTRS and with it I got something very similar to what you've posted. The service log has three services (all variable with about 14,000 miles in between them) but when I went through all of the paperwork I found an Audi service report from earlier this year that details two further services. I find it odd that they wouldn't transfer this information to the service log.

Agree this should be a sticky thread...will help the current and new owners...all of this info is in the service book, but this is much more clear as you've stripped out all of the other model info...

thanks for this!

Same with my purchase, digital history looked light. Contacted dealer, requested stamped service book with individual visits and work carried out. It cost me £13, but I now have what I see as a comprehensive breakdown of service history, with 5 stamps rather than the three shown online.

I can't get a digital service schedule for mine. Is it too old (11 plate)? The service book has three stamps. The additional two are listed on a service record sheet that was printed when the car was with Audi having some other work done. Where did they get that information from?

How did you get a stamped book? my car didn't come with a book to stamp (1st owner from new) so getting a stamped one suggests it's just been made up to satisfy your request?

Luckily the car had been serviced at the same dealership, they can reproduce service books and stamp and date with mileage accordingly. A dealer would not falsify this type of document, imagine the fall out. Just phone them up..

That makes sense...suppose the evidence from invoices will back all of that up too anyway.

personally I'm more concerned at seeing the full invoice than the stamp (but the stamp is critical in achieving full history). One good thing here is that "most" owners are keen to follow a proper service schedule on these cars.should put future owners minds at ease on what to buy and what to walk away from.

The book details what work was completed, invoices typically just show materials.

The book details what work should have been completed, not what was. The invoice details materials and labour charges and gives a more complete picture - along with the book (or the electronic service schedule/record).
