Project RS4 sold...

Post by Revolution » Thu Oct 19, 2017 10:03 pm

Another RS going to a new home next week.

36k miles and it’s been a cracker over the last 3.5yrs.
Good points
Engine, gearbox, looks of the boxy arches and the buckets. Driving position is perfect and handling on the limit is excellent.
Fantastic on long journeys and managed and indicated 192mph on the Autobahn with 3 up and luggage.
That screaming V8, going to miss it so much..!

Bad points
Noisy DRC that was only fixed after 3yrs when they recalled the car with an update.
Audi denied this was an issue from the day I
bought it and spoiled the overall experience
of an excellent all rounder. (fitting the KW springs quietened it down a lot).
Wish I hadn’t specced sports pack and saved my money and banged on a set of coilovers from day one and opted for ceramics instead.

Dynamic steering, never liked it in auto and drove day to day in comfort on individual setting but it came alive in dynamic at the Ring and Spa.
Brakes, the wavey non handed brakes just aren’t up to the job imho. RS6 stoppers fixed that.

Lack of torque, it needs revving to bring it alive and feels slow compared to new era of turbo’d cars.

Still an amazing car and as a comparison I had a loan M4 on test for a day and felt better built and much quicker on acceleration. But on a country road it wouldn’t see where the RS4 went in the dry never mind the wet which is credit to the RS4 handling and chassis.

If you’re thinking of trading up from a B7 or buying your first RS4, just do it as you won’t regret it..!

Not decided on a replacement RS yet but I fear the new RS4 will be too pricey even as an ex demo and needs to be 500bhp to move it on.
Latest RS3 is on the radar also but I hear on the grapevine the new RS5 is not selling so they maybe doing offers in those soon.
Doubt I will buy a new RS again as the hit on depreciation is too painful for my wallet and trade in offers from dealers were comical.

Overall 8.5/10 but could easily have been a 10 if brakes and DRC were up to the job.

Big Glenn
