Potential Purchase - 1st Service at 28k miles?
Re: Potential Purchase - 1st Service at 28k miles?
Thanks guys. I think I will leave this one alone and get my deposit back. Does anyone have a link to a copy of the official Service Schedule for the Audi B8 RS4? As I thought the DSG oil needed to be changed at 40k mile intervals, this is correct for my GOLF GTI anyway? Or is the 20k service just for the front final drive oil?

Walk, seriously. These engines need proper love and care and the consequences can be catastrophic in not. Also, if you do buy it, then think of what will happen when you come to sell it, anybody looking to buy will do their research and see the service was late and walk also.
There are built in tolerances, but I would bet my house on the 1st owner simply ignoring the service warning message for months on end.
No matter how good the deal is, walk. Ask for your £1k back, which you are entitled to do, and find another. There are lots of cars out there to choose from, don't buy something you will probably regret.

Re: Potential Purchase - 1st Service at 28k miles?
Great, thanks for the info Sam.
Just to update, the dealership has been in touch with the previous owner and they are convinced that it did have a service at around 15,000 miles at Audi. But, as with others on here, it isn't showing on the digital service log. This was Friday, and they still have not provided evidence either way. So I think it is looking unlikely that I will buy this car.
Cheers,
Chee

Re: Potential Purchase - 1st Service at 28k miles?
The exact reason I grabbed a service book from Audi at the same time we picked up a 65 plate family A3. Nowt wrong with an old school book imo, dealer the car came from even agreed and stamped the inside of the book for me, and local dealer had no issue stamping it at the first service. But then I'm a luddite hahaChee wrote: ↑Tue Oct 24, 2017 12:59 pmGreat, thanks for the info Sam.

Walk, there is very little chance that an Audi dealer would not update the electronic service log. Even the independent Audi specialist I use does. If they cannot categorically prove that it was done then you leave yourself open to warranty issues in the future and poor resale. Whilst I understand that its difficult to walk away there are a lot about, just keep looking. Full service history on these cars is a must, no ifs or buts. I for one would not touch one without documented proof.

Re: Potential Purchase - 1st Service at 28k miles?
Thanks everyone. I've now asked for my deposit back. They were hardly apologetic and the general service with the way they reacted to my concerns was frankly terrible. My wife has been totally put off Audi's and we're now looking at buying a brand new Golf R Estate
Just to let people know, the car is back on the used approved website. Car is at Stafford Audi... black with alu styling pack and 2015 black with polished lip rotors.

Re: Potential Purchase - 1st Service at 28k miles?
So buying an Approved Used Audi doesn't guarantee a full service history, I'll have to remember that. In contrast I've just bought a 7 month old Golf GTi Clubsport and the dealer serviced it 5 months early so I didn't have to get it done for another year, I didn't even ask for it to be done.
Re: Potential Purchase - 1st Service at 28k miles?
Pretty much, yes. Although Audi will also service a car prior to sale if it will be due a service within 12 months from the date of sale.lofty wrote: ↑Mon Oct 30, 2017 2:22 pmSo buying an Approved Used Audi doesn't guarantee a full service history, I'll have to remember that. I've seen another B8 RS4 I like the look of, but again there are some service anomalies. This time the first service was at 20,668 miles, and the front final drive oil has only just been changed at 28k miles. It appears Audi have no idea or control of what the servicing should be for this car. Why did the final drive oil get missed at the first service, seeing as it was already above the 20k mile mark?

Re: Potential Purchase - 1st Service at 28k miles?
Chee - due apologies for jumping on this thread, but have a similar issue
Please forgive my ignorance as a newbie - but have read extensively on here about all the various issues
Just seen a March 15 B8 at a local non Audi dealership. 32k miles
Oil changes done at 5500 and 16000 by an Audi dealership.
They (and the current selling garage) have no doumentation of the foll items on Sam's list in the sticky
"Audi Additional Service Requirements:
Front Final Drive: renew gearbox oil – Every 20,000 miles.
Cabin interior Dust & Pollen filter – Every 20,000 miles or 2 years. Whichever comes first.
Panoramic Roof : check mechanism, clean & grease slides – Every 2 years or 40,000 miles. Whichever comes first"
Having spoken to my local dealership - they're of the opinion that Audi UK would not cover the gearbox, if it went kaput - although the seller reckonas his local audi dealer would cover it locally 'under goodwill'
Thoughts please, from those with more experience in such matters..
Thanks in advance

Re: Potential Purchase - 1st Service at 28k miles?
I would recommend only going for a car with the correct service history. I'm having issues with my gearbox as we speak - glycol in the gearbox oil which has contaminated the clutches so need replacing. This seems to be a common problem. I've been chasing this issue with Audi for most of the year to prove there is an issue and as the end of warranty is looming it needed sorting. I had all of the transmission oils replaced at 19K miles as the gearbox was playing-up to see if it settled it down but it didn't. If you don't have full service history it's just the kind of excuse Audi need to wriggle out of fixing this kind of issue.

Re: Potential Purchase - 1st Service at 28k miles?
That's the grey area bit
2 services done at 5500 and 16000, by Audi (I phoned and checked personally).
The additional bits (esp the "Front Final Drive: renew gearbox oil – Every 20,000 miles") not done to date - currently 32k miles
The seller has suggested a gearbox inspection at Audi dealership of my choice + Multipoint pre sale check - which he is willing to pay for + any bits that need doing post inspection.
I need to see with my local dealer, if they'd be happy to sort out on 'goodwill' should something go wrong in the future
Was thinking of getting a 2 year additional Audi warrant anyway, come March 2015

Re: Potential Purchase - 1st Service at 28k miles?
Gearbox inspection? Not sure how they can do this without striping. They can do road test and oil contamination check, and maybe plug in diagnostics but that will tell you nothing unless the potential failure is in progress. Extended warranty will not cover gearbox unless schedule is stuck too.
