As the title suggests, thinking of the centre res delete and X pipe in place of....any advice, better economy (marginal?) power? H pipe better? Your thoughts please. Thanks

I tried so many bloody variations.

What i know is the downpipes are what will bring you the power. The OE ones are a joke and all dented and bent. A non res milltek gave me 22bhp at the wheels.

Having no centre resonator on the milltek was stupid. It sounded epic outside and on full chat but where the valves open at 2800-3500 rpm it was just deafening with drone. This is 70-80 motorway driving so unusable.

I had the optional resonator put in and it fixed all the problems but lost the top end volume and rasp.

I finally had the front silencers chopped out and replaced with an x pipe where the banks naturally join (an x pipe where the centre silencer is too far back really).

This was spot on.

Long story short I'd keep the back the same, order awe or milltek downpipes and then replace the silencers on those with an x pipe - either custom or maybe the HMS one if the diameters work.

If you're getting a custom exhaust place to do the x-pipe for you, could get them to do new downpipes for you just using the OEM main (200 cell) cats.

I paid longlife exhausts £650 for new downpipes and the x-pipe

Oh, and centre resonator/x-pipe/h-pipe will make no noticeable difference to power or economy...only the sound.

Ditching the pre-cats is the key to getting better performance, as Deano said

The B8 only has 1 set of cats on the manifolds. The ones on the downpipes are just little resonators. I found they cut the high end raspy noise rather than the deep tones. I think you can actually buy milltek downpipes without the silencers on the US spec RS5 system. I'd not buy the rest of the system.

This is why you need new downpipes ImageImageImage

Personally mate I'd start with everything in front of the middle resonator and leave that unless you know you want it loud, totally unsocial on a cold start and to drone like a bastard at anything below 3k rpm.
