I would agree the purism is vanishing quickly.
Also, IMHO I just don't understand why there is no B8 or B9 RS4 saloon for example. The B7 saloon shows how good it can be.
I have driven the new M4 and it is <beep>.
I admire the Alfa Quadrifoglio and the Lexus LC500, both of which I have seen in Berlin recently and they have real impact. I haven't driven either one yet but have applied for test drives in both.
RS4 B7, Mugello Blue, K&W V3 & HR ARBs, set up by Centre Gravity, Milltek Valved Non Res & cat bypass pipes, BMC air filter, braided hoses, DOT 5.1, Terraclean, MRC Full Carbon Clean, MRC remap 448PS 477NM, 20" S7 alloys with 4mm spacers & Hawke spigots 66.6 > 57.1, AP Racing front discs. Sold Sept 2019. Now rocking an F80 M3

The m3 proves a saloon is needed, and seems to be more desirable than the m4 if you look at the residuals. So the rs5, does not fit the gap. BMW do not do a tourer m3 though, so makes you wonder if there is an agreement in place?
