Had a new Alfa about 10 years ago. The worst car experience I have ever had. Fiat dealers (dont be fooled by an Alfa Logo above the door), crap build quality and appalling waits for parts to arrive from Italy. I hope things have improved but I certainly wouldn't buy again. Resale value would also be a concern as they depreciate heavily and aren't attractive without warranty.

Residuals do concern me to be honest. But I've 'lost' bundles on cars over the years so if I want it enough I'll get it regardless.
I'm going to wait till I've driven / seen the new RS3 saloon before I decide though.

Drove the pre facelift RS3 on an audi event about 18 months ago. it was quick, but the seating position was horrendous. may have been addressed in the facelift though...

Saying that, the R8 v10+ blew everything else away that day, so anything that happened after that was kinda a let down! haha

I had a look at the new RS5 yesterday and in my opinion as I thought it is seriously disappointing, there is no way I would even consider one, I had the old shape RS5 and RS4 Avant B8 and loved the looks and real noise of both, the new one reminds me of a toy car and I can see no point in waiting for the new RS4 either as I am sure it will be the same.
Something has gone seriously wrong with Audi styling recently and having had Audis for over 20 years I am afraid its time to look elsewhere! but where?
RS4 and RS5 with a 2.9 engine (all be it more powerful), It seems wrong to me, guess I am getting old and stuck in my ways. and where did they get that pricing from?

Sorry Audi its time for us to part company.

I like the idea of a smaller lighter engine with more torque, but the Kia styling and price tag will stop me changing. The top spec rs5 interior is a nice place to be, but you have to pay for the privilege!

They're aimed at the people that people that are into "tech & Finance. Sole has gone out of the window.
Yep, they've developed a bad halibut of making underwhelming cars.
I think the owners are getting a tad more obtuse as well, this plaice is going downhill and the RS range due a good hake down.

I drove the Alfa few weeks back and at milbrook a few months back

Very tempting if it wasn't for poor interior and unknown residuals and customer care which scare the crap out of me!

Audi dealer getting me an RS5 for the weekend to see if new 4 would be a contender

I very much doubt you will see a naturally aspirated V8 in an Audi (other than the R8) again. EU law has effectively killed them off. The 80g/KM legislation means longer gearboxes and lower revs. BMW's head of engine technology said this recently:

From today’s technical, political and social perspective, naturally aspirated petrol engines are unlikely to be considered for mass production.
“Less cylinders is less friction, lower revs is less friction and turbo engines offer high torque starting at very low revs and for a broad speed range, outperforming naturally aspirated engines.

and Audi's head of driveline development this:

“The exceptional advantages of supercharging (a catch-all term in Germany for forced-induction) have turned the naturally aspirated engine into a niche technology. Nevertheless, there is still a place for it in emotive cars like the R8.”

Styling however is always going to be a marmite thing, for everyone who dislikes the RS5 there will be others that love it. I wince at some of the Bentley wheels, air bags etc I see on RS models about however loads rave about them. Beauty will always be in the eye of the beholder.

Lexus somehow is able to come up with V8 coupe that sticks to emission limits. Yes it is a niche expensive car I love the engine and styling though

The spy shots on the B9 RS4 reveal it's nothing more than a 2.0tdi in looks with an extra exhaust......they've lost the teknique if that's how it's spelt.....can't be arsed to check, I'm going out in my NA V8 with two fingers up to the EU

It's got nothing to do with the EU, the whole game is changing on a global scale. Think it's time to grab a big V8 while you can as it looks like the end of the line mate.

I like the look of the Alfa, saw a red one in Berlin a few weeks ago and it looked and sounded the part.
I'm looking forward to the new RS4 B9, but I am not a fan of auto and clitoris hand brakes.

New RS5 looks good in Black, but is way too expensive with options, to the point where it's silly.
