Replacement Tyres - RO1/RO2 or not

What are people's thoughts on the necessity of RO1 or RO2 OEM markings on replacement tyres?
I've seen various comments regarding this but all I can find in the vehicle handbook is that it is recommended, not that it is mandatory. Has anyone actually had a warranty claim refused on the basis on having non RO1 or RO2 tyres?
Personally, as long as the tyre has the correct dimensions, load and speed ratings then there should not be any issue.

Should be R01 but I have ignored this for ages now, as long as the tyre is up to the performance spec I can't see insurance companies picking up on it.
My B8.5 came with PPZ and I couldn't wait to get rid of, went to MPSS which are not R0 rated at all and not official condoned by Audi (MPS are). I swapped to MPSS as soon as I could and I have now gone to MPS4S's which are even better.

Not concerned about insurance companies as the tyres would be the correct spec. More concerned about rumours of Audi not honouring warranty claims on suspension/steering. However, it's not clear how widespread this is and whether it is just heresay and rumour. Does anyone know of a claim being refused?
I think the refusal of a warranty claim based on non RO1/RO2 tyres is complete b0ll0cks!!

Yeah, I had 275 wide tyres rather than 255 on my B7 and had the suspension repaired many times without issue. However, things change and not sure if that is still the case with Audi.

I had non-RO rated tyres fitted by an Audi dealer at the 1st service and at the same time they replaced 1 DRC shock under warranty (zero DRC issues since and not at 50k miles), the never mentioned the wrong tyres they just mentioned I could by cheaper by buying the MPS rather than MPSS, I have sine moved to MPS4S's (MPSS replacement).
