Hello everyone - just joined this forum having recently bought a 2105 RS4, Daytona Grey, with just 27,000km on the clock. Hi to any other kiwi RS4 owners out there.

Already found this forum very helpful with my two problems after first couple of weeks of ownership: (a) tyre scrubbing at low speeds on high lock - good to know this isn't anything like as sinister as it felt when I backed out of my driveway for the first time; and (b) dynamic exhaust setting in individual mode being "forgotten" each time I switch the car off.

Loving the car and very happy with my purchase. Unbeatable sound from that V8 with the taps wide open, and I love the "wolf in sheep's clothing" aspect of the car. First track day at the end of this month. Looking forward to that too....

First things, first. Rule 1. We neeeeed pictures

A) Tyre scrubbing happens on these cars as the tyres wear down. So nothing to worry about, that's just Quattro for you.

B) Dynamic exhaust (exhaust valves) close for a cold start up. I think they should re-open once you Rev beyond 4k rpm, or cycle through the ADS drive modes, or pull the gear leaver back to cycle through Sport/Drive modes.

Fwiiw I find that moving to manual and back to auto does not kick my car back into individual. Only sure fire way is through the MMI

Ok so I think I've managed to include a pic as requested (I'm a newbie to internet forums as well so apologies if that hasn't worked).

Yes I'm down to 4mm or less on the front tyres, so the scrub is no doubt at its worst. Going in for fresh rubber before my 1 July track day (and have noted comments that there are many better options that the factor PZeros).

Still experimenting with the dynamic exhaust "setting forget" issue. A simple kick into S and back do D doesn't fix it from a cold start, but selecting the individual settings button on the car screen wakes it up every time. Not sure yet what driving characteristics if any make it "remember" to open the flaps later if you don't touch anything, but haven't found anything obvious yet.

I recently took my brother for a blat down some damp and very twisty rounds near Rotorua and we both agreed it would be a hard car to beat with the agility and levels of grip on offer - my other car purchase option was a new M3, and on a road like that (and there are a lot of those around here), the M3 would either be ruled either by traction control or wheelspin and never get the power down. And with traction off on a road like that the M3 would simply try to kill anyone other than a highly experienced driver. And that RS4 V8 soundtrack - my god I could listen to that all day.

Only other niggle I have - I don't mind the high fuel consumption (goes with the territory), but wish the fuel tank was larger so I wasn't such a regular at the local gas station!

My brother lives in NZ. He said the roads are awesome out there for nice drives in a fast motor, he drives a 1.0l yaris though

Yes I guessed there must be an rs4kiwi since I tried that as a username and it was taken already.

Yes there are no shortage of great driving roads of all sorts in this country, but they are getting busier each year. They also tend to be a bit hazardous with unexpected tyre-destroying pot-holes (most roads here are chip-seal so easily get wrecked by heavy vehicles in the wet), possums at night, and tourists forgetting to drive on the left!

Diff scrub can be dialled out with good and full tread tyres and a diff oil service. It does happen to all quattro's but I can be eliminated and its a sign that iether you tyres are getting worn or you diff oil needs changing, or both. with 27k kms on the clock you should have had a small service the next fluid/oil service is an important one , whtout it warranty is void. 38k miles in the UK but I suggest you check the NZ figures with your dealer as they may not translate the same due to different rules and environmental. YOu diff scrub shoud go after the fluid service if your tyres have plenty of tread on them

My only wish was a bigger fuel tank, its tiny for the car and engine, 240-260 miles to a tank.

Thanks Geoffdunk, you were right the scrub was completely eliminated once new rubber was fitted. And timing for new tyres couldn't have been better as my track day that weekend was wet, wet, wet. A Quattro has to be about the best thing to have on a wet track though - the small number of other brave souls out in 2WD cars were eating my spray all day, with the RS4's ability to get the power down and stick hard through the corners (well, most of them - had one or two loose moments!). Again that small gas tank - half a tank gone in 20 or so laps! Loved getting the car out on the track though despite the weather - what a machine!
