Tyres - Whats everybody getting

Chaps,

Currently got the Pirelli rubber with 19k mile on them, so i'm looking for new tyres with less tram lining etc.

Looking back on a few threads it looks like Bridgestone's are better and the current offering seems to be the Potenza S007 at pushing £250, actually Camskill are offering £210.

So I'd just Be interested in any wisdom on the tyres available at moment, before I get the wallet out......and if people felt the Bridgestone really did improve things over the Pirelli.

Thanks in advance.

Oak

I had PPZ on mine form the factory and they were horrific, I didn't know how bad exactly until I did the 1st change to MPSS. My old PPZ tram-lined like a bastard and when I switched it transformed the car, it's as if I had changed the car, it was seriously that much different. I got shot of them before they had worn to the limit!!!

I have since swapped to the new Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tyre (not MPS4, that's a different tyre). They are even better than the outgoing MPSS with reduced road noise which was the only slight issue with the previous MPSS's.

I don't run anything else other than the MPSS's usually, I did on my B7, C63, M3 and S4. All swapped out for, in my opinion, a sub standard tyre whether it was a Conti, Dunlop or Uniroyal.

Strickly speaking Michelin don't do an Audi fitment for their flagship tyre but I ignore that, they are stunning.

Interesting. I'm at 13k miles with Pirellis and car is terrible for tram lining. Only last night was I debating with a pal if it was the tyres. Did a long run to Orkney last week and the car was less fun than I expected and I'm guessing the tyres had something to do with the way the car drove

That's nice to read Geoffdunk, as I have ordered 4x Michelin 4Ss only just a couple of days ago.

The Bridgestone S007 is a great tyre for outright performance, it grips more than any generation of Michelin tyre I've used before (inc PSS) and they also work well in the wet. Which is amazing considering the tread pattern they have. Only slight negatives are, they're quite noisy and start to really tramline once down to about 4mm. If it wasn't for the tramlining, I'd have kept them on for a few more thousand miles, giving nearly 19k miles for a set.

Mine had 4mm all round when I binned them, I'm not a fan but on the RS4 there were deadly. Had them on other cars and even though I don't like them they were never as bad.

Glad to see the back of my PZ Rosso's. A roadside puncture in the OSF inner sidewall ended up with a ride home on an AA lorry as the tin of monkey spunk in the boot wouldn't fill the hole. So all four were swapped last week for Dunlop SportMaxx GT's. Car is now sharp but compliant, and much more fun with no tramlining whatsoever and I'm pleased with the tyres and the deal. They're much quieter too.
Bought the boots through AA Tyres, and they were fitted at home, £815.

Bridgstones S007's all the way. Can be pricey though, but most premium tyres the correct size are.

TBH, I have never tried any other tyre on my RS4. Always had good experience with Continential Contisport contact 4's, but there are later variations

Is it wrong to be excited by new tyres ?

:jump:

For reference, like the Bridgestone S007, you only get 7mm from new.
