Hi All,

I've had the engine management light come on a couple of times now, it's always about a mile from home after starting the car from cold.

I hooked up to VCDS last night and pulled the following info;

Dont suppose either of you found a resolution to this fault code?

I'm getting the same issue. If I drive using very little throttle from cold, after a mile or two it throws an engine fault and limits to 6000rpm. Engine light and limit resets shortly after getting warm.

Plugged into VCDS this morning and it has fuel pressure and random cyclinder missfire issues also. Its recently had a major service at Audi, I didnt mention it when it went in for a service (it's been happening for about 3 months intermitantly), just to see if Audi would bring it to my attention. They didnt, which I personally think is awful, you pay a K for a service and they dont even scan your car for faults and raise it with you!

Hydraulic variator was culprit on Marks car. Engine out to fix.

I had this issue, cam position (inlet) slow response. Cured by replacing cam control actuator and perform oil change. Job was 3hrs, didn’t require engine removal. The actuator works on oil pressure, it’s definately worth changing oil if this is your issue.

No I got it done under warranty as I had a warranty on the vehicle when I bought it from the dealer. The bad news is the fault came back and is still intermittent. Some times it’s registers sometimes it doesn’t. It’s quite annoying but can be cleared by a restart of the motor. Lived with it for over 2yrs now.

Thanks @RS4GCI for the reply. I have new actuator on order anyway so will change that. I wondered if it might be to do with electrical supply, perhaps after cold start battery might be a bit weaker if the actuators are stiff. Just seeing as it only does it from cold, never once the car has been started already.

It sounds a very similar issue to mine. Only on cold start it occurs and light throttle. If I let the motor warm up to the first line on temp gauge before setting off it doesn’t throw the EPC light. Never occurs when the motor is warm. It’s really annoying as it doesn’t affect the performance of the motor other than limiting revs to 6k if it does occur but it can then be cleared by a restart.
