Audi embarrassment

Post by Afsimba » Sat Mar 04, 2017 11:34 pm

Word to the wise if you come across a BMW 335d x drive in the rain in a straight line ! Save yourself the embarrassment your car can't gain an inch mid range and probably won't till your in highly illegal speed territory ! Halo Rs product ? They better up there game and soon because the cars about as much use as they're customer service ! looking at an Rs6 again but would probably get eaten by a 535d not even remotely a BMW fan never mind diesel but considering road tax hikes cost of car etc something half the price can keep up and easily they need to name them SR instead of RS

I had a mapped non x drive 335d and they are properly quick but not quite as quick as an RS at any speed in a straight line. Yea it is pretty much as quick for 2/3 of the money but they are totally boring to be in and to look at.

I've never had a problem with them. Even in an E46 M3, as long as you were in the right gear the 535d wasn't too close. In fairness, like you say, it's the midrange that is their party piece. Great cars, but great everyday 'normal' soot chuckers. You also don't know whether it was mapped.

A guy at work has the 335d x drive and he had a play with a B8 RS4 the other night. I wasn't there but from what he was saying the RS4 did pull away (only a bit) and it could possibly have been cuz the Beemer had too much torque for the road conditions (bit slippy)!!

I'm looking for a B8 at the moment so when I get one we will no doubt find a private road and see whats what in the purpose of science. I very much doubt there will be anything in it performance wise and that hurts (me), but the RS4 has that certain something that I want.......no ...I need!!!

Now if I could have that RS4 that's got the RS6 engine in it..... perfect :biggrin3:

I agree though, Audi need to pick the game up on the RS4 to keep the flag flying .... and with the massive gap between the 4 & the 6 they can afford to juice it up a bit and not encroach on the performance of the RS6 wich I suspect they will do with the B9.

The new RS4 will accelerate to 62 as fast as a non Performance RS6 does I reckon (ie sub 4 seconds on paper).

Honestly, for me it's not about the speed. Everyone looks, stares and comes over to talk about it when parked up. I have started to go to owners meets and spend lots more time keeping it looking good. I very very much doubt that would be the case with a 3 series diesel. Plenty of other cars will out run the RS4 including my S1 if I put stage 1 on it but that just misses the point.

You are so right. That is exactly it. I was never on a BMW forum with my DERV, never looked forward to a 5am trip to work, never had the local specialist phone me up to see if i was passing for a cup of tea, never had people open their windows in tunnels, never had people come ask me about the car at the shell garage. Only this morning i had a kid on his way to school do the lorry horn gesture at me, valves open, little blip in neutral and I made his day. Try that in a 335d!

I didn't buy mine just to go quick, if you did then you made the wrong choice in a B8 as it's specs have been known since 2012 and there are plenty quicker.

For me it's the whole experience of ownership. Whilst I admit the colour of mine turns heads I have never owned a car like it. I'll never get tired of starting it on a busy petrol forecourt and everyone turning to look, knocking the gearbox into sport as I drive past the local school at kicking out time and them all staring as the car burps down the box. Shaking my head in disbelief as my wife wanted to go back across the Dartford crossing just to go through the tunnel again, trying to max it out at 174 on the A2 in Germany, throwing the dogs in the back to go to the park and wondering how I would do this in a two seater, picking up the Christmas tree from a muddy farmers field and throwing it in the boot? I could go on.

High-revving n/a V8 against a Massey Ferguson rattle box?
Sorry, but this is rather pointless and you should now sell yours and go back to the black pump.
acprc is bang on the money for the whole RS4 experience.
