Air filters

Hi all,
Just about to get 2nd service (19k miles) done and dealer called to say they forgot to include air filters in quote - extra £136 as they need doing at 20k miles.
I know there's 2 but has anyone bought oem parts or pipercross/ k & n and done themselves? Seems steep to me! I'm assuming it is an easy job without looking too.
Ta

Ask them for a parts only price and fit them yourself. That way they'll be included on your service invoice.

I fitted K&Ns recently for £100 ish for the two and fitted myself. Easy job to do as there are about four torx screws to undo per airbox to get access.

I was quoted 155 i think it was. Got them for under 50 from ebay and they fitted for free and put them on the invoice as zero cost.

I avoided pipercross as the one in my last car let a load of dirt through

I fitted BMC. Have them both in the RS4 and S1 and find them superb. Well made and easy to clean and re-oil.

A good friend of mine runs this company and his service is superb.

That's encouraging - to any that have k&n or itg etc, is there any difference (improvement) in the car vs oem? Just thinking back to max power days (not mine!) and all the claims of more bhp etc. Obviously an increase in 1-2 bhp is unlikely to be noticed at 440 ish unlike adding it to a 46bhp fiat panda and I'm unlikely to hear much change in noise with radio 4 blasting out full pelt...

With K&N's installed there is definitely a sharper throttle and the engine pulls a lot more from 5000rpm compared to the OEM filters, however for me it wasn't a true like for like comparison as the OEMs had done 15K miles so had seen better days. The engine sounded better as well.

I've got a pair of Pipercross filters for sale if anyone wants them. Were in the car for less than 7 days before I saw a second hand Eventuri kit come up on here!

Notts Audi quoted me 156 fitted. Crewe Audi via an eBay add supplied them to me parts only for 56 for the pair!
some Audi dealers are really trying to extract as much as they can out of their customers at the moment. There are massive pricing discrepancies between dealers!
